People have said that the Bible is about salvation from punishment as a result of sin, about we His church of grafted heirs (and even brides) which make us a special new creation.
Sure... ok, that is a watered down version, and that has described our self perceived appearance, but not what is expected of us. Unsurprisingly, they even put man before God as the religion makes it all about us and not about the message Jesus said He was created to send, that our time of futility is over and God is taking over.
From cover to cover God says follow His will alone, and man goes about putting theirs ahead of His and it has been going back and forth like that ever since. Jesus and the Apostles taught this struggle of wills was coming to an end and that man would have their self serving and oppressive ways over others knocked out from under them.
The self serving world of man of course, is not impressed. Even in the early days of the Way, Roman writers spoke of how the earliest pre-institutionalized Christians were called haters of man because they would not go along with the Establishment. We saw how that counter-culture concept played out in the 60's (without the lions of course). Even within Christianity there is a struggle between the two camps, with of course the Establishment controlling the narrative of the institutional church, but unable to stop those of the counter-culture of the Kingdom from following their own path based on scripture instead of the narrative controlling theologies of man that serve the Establishment. We are either of the world of man or of the Kingdom of God. No compromise.
