An Introduction: Life In General

Yesterday I posted about my mum going in to hospital. I had come back from the hospital with my dad in the car when I wrote it and despite being a non-believer, felt that sharing it on CF might be a good thing to do. Sometimes a little bit of social support is all that is needed. I don't think its serious, but as it is the first time one of my parents has had to go in to hospital, it is a shock none the less and is going to dominate the next few days.

I am slowly trying to sort my life out. I've had depression for almost a decade and got my first job about the middle of last year. I work in a Charity shop in a local market town two days a week. Its been good to go out, see people and generally feel more confident that I can do things. I live with my parents (and two cats, Foss & Jess, and a pet duck, called Daisy). Its a very rural area of the UK and it is difficult to get anything done because of the amount of travel time involved. I regularly use the bus to get to work.

I have previously been a long-time communist sympathiser and atheist but this has become utterly unsustainable. It would now be really sensible to put it behind me and make a fresh start. It is however something that has dominated my life for the past decade and is intimately connected with depression and recovering from it. So its a hell of a mess to clear up personally and overcome. Cutting down the amount of news I watch and politics I discuss online would be a really good start. Being on Christian forums may help me at least get to know Christians a bit better and respect their faith, even when I disagree, and given that I have taken a rather bigoted view of Christians in the past, it can't hurt to change that.

I am currently trying to cut down my internet usage. It was hanging round a very unhealthy 6-12 hours a day last year, but after getting myself banned from Religiousforums.com for a few months, it has gone down to a more sustainable 1-3 hours a day. [my username on religiousforums is "Laika" in case your wondering as I know a few people use both Christian forums and religious forums.] I have an app that can ban me from the internet for up to 24 hours so that has helped me resist temptation and try to focus on other things. Being on Christian forums is partly a way to see if I can resolve my own personal issues and try to find a "balanced" way of being on an internet forum without having to deal with trolls and abuse. Hopefully, I'll make a few friends here and just grow up a bit. :)
