About Rivers

Rivers are a beautiful thing. They are home to host of fish and plant life. The fish feed an assortment of birds. Rivers help to support the ecosystem. They also bring water that is useful for irrigation. The water can be used to power hydro electric plants. Rivers can also be used for recreation such as boating and whitewater rafting. Rivers also add beauty.

River water can also be destructive when it isn't in its proper place. There is something wrong with the above picture. The greenbelt in the above picture is flooded. I photographed this flooded out green belt last week. The river water even smothered the manicured lawns that adorned this green belt. This water seeped into basements and destroyed personal property that was stored in these spaces. The water home to bacteria, had to be pumped from these basements, lest it putrefy and lead to the spread of disease. Then they have to cleaned with germ killing treatments. Flood waters can damage homes forcing people to evacuate. The flood waters get high enough lives can be lost.

There is a point to this discussion. Rivers in their proper place are beneficial, but out of the proper place they are destructive.

The Bible talks about another thing that is good and beneficial in it proper context, but out of its place it is destructive. It can lead to spiritual putrefaction and disease out of its proper context.

But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
Proverbs 6:32-35

Here in Proverbs it is even likened to waters.

Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
Proverbs 5: 15-19

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. - Hebrews 13:4

And here very plainly is what the proper context is. Anything outside of this is destructive.

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.--1 Corinthians 7:2
