A Universalist's Parable

One day there was three men who had died, and were waiting judgment from God. The first man to go in had been an atheist his entire life and was confused why he felt even more alive after dying, he was led into the Throne room where upon immediately seeing God, fell to his knees out of pure humility and realizing over everything he's ever done, not being able to continue. As the angels had to actually pick him up and carry him, he reflected upon all of this. When he was brought before God, he cried out "LORD, have mercy on me, who has done nothing but sin his entire life." God looked down on him with compassion and reached out saying "You have truly repented, come, rest, and share in my happiness." The next man, a Buddhist monk who had spent his life working with the poor was brought into the throne room. Like the atheist, he fell into his knees and could not look upon God. "Well done, you have fed me when I needed to be fed, clothed me in my nakedness, and gave me drink in my thirst." "LORD," he replied, "I have never seen you before". "I tell you child, you saw me in everyone you came across. Come, rest, and share in my happiness." The third man was brought into the room. He immediately fell to his knees and thanked God for allowing him to be saved unlike the other two men he had just shared a moment. God spoke to him "Who are you to speak on such things you know nothing about." "I thought..." "You have honored me with your lips for years, and claimed to know but you have never known me." The man then stood up and said, "What do you mean, LORD" "You excluded those whom I welcome; you loved me but did not love your neighbor. You followed your pastor, not my heart. Away from me, you are not ready to enter my kingdom."
