A Tale Of Two Mothers

This is a story of two mothers, and the similarities and differences in their lives.

One was a long-time friend of my mom's. One day her 21-year-old son ran out of gas on a California freeway. He obtained some gas in a gas-can and was pouring it into his car when he was struck by an oncoming car.

His mom, who had never really had faith in God's existence, prayed for him to live; he didn't.

For the remainder of her life, his mother struggled with the loss of her son, and anger at God whom she didn't believe in.

The other mother was someone I met standing in line for dinner at a camp. She told me how her 21-year-old son had run out of gas on a California freeway, was pouring additional gas into his car, and was struck by an oncoming car and killed.

She said "I know my son is with Jesus, and I will see him again"

Obviously, the second mom had Christian faith, and the first one didn't. But that wasn't the only difference.

The first mom once said: "Your reputation is the most important thing you have"; many Christians would agree with her.

The second mom and I met at a nudist camp, and we were both naked as jaybirds; many Christians would say we were sinning, and that lust must have been present because we were of opposite sexes.

So go figure...
