My friend Bill, wrote this article and he has many more. I hope you enjoy his wisdom as much as I do. If you like this you can read more online at www.billconnoronline.com
His book, "Articles From War" is amazing as well. He doesn't keep any of the profit. He gives that money to the Private Christian schools in SC.
SEMINARIANS WARNED NOT TO “READ THE BIBLE AS LITERALLY TRUE.”
The Liberal smear campaign against Bible-believing Christians has found a new audience: New York’s Union Theological Seminary. Left-wing journalist Bill Moyers was introduced there as: “The most respected journalist in America”. This was before giving the opening speech of the academic year. His speech answered the question of why so many new Christian ministers don’t believe in Biblical authority. This speech confirmed the “viral intolerance” (words used by Moyers to describe attitudes of conservative Christians) of Liberals toward evangelicals. All Christians, particularly ministers, should take note and condemn this kind of divisive rhetoric at our nation’s seminaries.
The hatred and slander toward conservative Christians in the speech was boundless. Moyers compared conservative Christians with Muslim terrorists. He claimed both groups “cite many verses in (scripture)” as grounds “for waging war for God’s sake”. He showed extreme partisanship in declaring “The country is not yet a theocracy but the Republican Party is.” Moyers called conservative Christians “homegrown Ayatollahs” who are on “an unprecedented sectarian crusade for state power.” He also called the evangelical movement “political holy war financed by wealthy economic interests.” Lastly, he told these students it is dangerous to “read the Bible as literally true” and they must resist those holding that belief.
The ridiculous hyperbole is to be expected from Moyers. He is a radical Liberal secularist. What disturbs me is a Theological Seminary honoring these anti-Christian views in front of future Christian ministers. These young students came to seminary after a call from God. They came to spend three years of their lives learning the Word of God in the Bible. After graduation, they are expected to be the leaders of the Christian Church. They will be expected to minister to their congregations under the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ fulfilled over 600 Old Testament prophecies and consistently referenced Old Testament scripture in His teaching. If the Old and New Testaments do not hold authority in Christianity, the whole faith is open to attack and question.
Many aren’t aware, but vows at ordination include Biblical authority. As military members take an oath to support and defend the Constitution, new ministers take a vow to the authority of scripture. They have a professional duty to believe and understand the Bible. Clergy are the primary element in society with an obligation to defend Christian scripture against the opposing secular forces.
Unfortunately, many seminaries now focus on “sophistication” over God. They desire to gain acceptance in academia by showing “critical scholarship” of the Bible. What this really means is viewing the Bible as the secular fields do with any book: Miracles cannot exist, “Historical Jesus” vs. Biblical Jesus, Gospel of John being questioned for its uniqueness, etc. The result: In trying to impress the World, many seminaries have become the non-Christian World and gave up authority and Holiness of the Bible.
For good reason, Christian ministers cannot “pick and choose” what they want to believe. The clear teaching of the Bible is that man is sinful by nature. If given discretion, man will naturally choose the parts of the Bible he “wants” to believe. Though Jesus talked about Hell more than any other Character in the Bible, many Liberal ministers decide not to mention or believe in Hell. Though Jesus was quite clear that He was the exclusive way to Heaven, many Liberal ministers “choose” to teach and believe that all religions lead to salvation (or that all the salvation references in the Gospels and Epistles, particularly John and Paul, cannot be trusted). A group called the Jesus Seminar, partly made up of Liberal ministers, believes only 10% Christ’s words from the New Testament are “historic”.
Christian ministers have a duty to take back Christianity from secularized seminaries. As a lay Christian, I’m getting tired of having to defend the authority of scripture against Liberal ministers. I should only have to contend with non-Christian questioning. Ministers have a professional obligation and are paid to do a job. That job is to teach and preach Christianity from the Bible, not help “make up” a Christianity that conforms to the World. All Christians have enough of a challenge in facing militant secularism. We shouldn’t have to contend with seminaries.
