A big problem developing in the story

"Not hearing an answer right away, Eva dropped the carefully woven rope to the bottom of the canyon, and then she climbed down along that same way that they had used, for the easiest access. She left the rope right there as she wandered around along the way where they had gathered. Then she heard a noise, it went 'pssst'. It was from the berry shrubs on one side of the canyon, where they had previously gathered. She approached, and she then heard the voice of Jaffa, speaking very low, 'Get back in here, Eva, now! There is a monstrously huge snake here in the canyon. It is going back and forth along the canyon, and looking to catch any prey!'

"Eva said, 'What prey would there be? We never saw any.'

"Her sister said, 'This canyon goes much further that way, there must be animals that the snake could go after that way, we are only near the end of the canyon over here. Stay hidden, if we see the snake come again this way and then turn back, it would be going further along the length of the canyon, and we can go to get out from here right away then.' "
