1 John 2:7-11

John tells those who he is writing to that he is writing to them a command. It is not new in the sense that they have never heard it before, but it is new in the way that Jesus emphasized it. Jesus said both in John 13:34 and 15:12 to love one another. In the verse in chapter 15 he adds to love the way that He loved us. He goes on to add that he loved us enough to die for us.
If a person walks in darkness then there is a cause of stumbling in him. vs.11. Cause of stumbling is the word skandalon which means a snare or trigger of a trap. The darkness itself is vs.8 "passing away". It is not gone, but is passing. The true light is not at its full strength, but is coming. We are to walk in the light so we are not blinded vs.11 blinded means darkens the mind, make blind. There are numerous passages that mention spiritual blindness in Eph 4:18; 2 Co 4:4; 3:14; Mt 15:14; Mt 6:23 and Is 59:10. It is a dangerous thing. Paul said in 1 Cor 13:2-3 that you could give everything to the poor, surrender your body to the flames and not have love and all of your sacrifice profits you nothing. The greatest of the three faith, hope and love is love. 1 Cor 13:13
