Disclaimer 1: If this is in the wrong sub-forum I ask that it please be moved as appropriate, it was not my intention to cause anyone distress.
Disclaimer 2: Regardless of how you view this question the intent is not to cause duress but rather it's intent is merely for me to find some clearer answers to things I was wondering about (1 Pet 3:15)
Disclaimer 3: English is my second language.
So the question is quite simply: What is sin?
But some clarification perhaps is necessary.
It would be nice if the answer made sense in the biblical context, firstly new testament but hopefully in regards to all.
Let me expand a little bit more on this...
Perhaps you would argue that sin is not doing God's will. If this is so then how does...
I'm enraged with God.
I've got a mental illness (psychosis) and am unable to do anything. I've got to drive a family member to an hospital in the morning, and I'm petrified of people. I've put away my bibles, my crucifixes and rosaries, my saints and our lady (since I'm baptized catholic, I got this by tradition). Put away from my sight anything God related. I think the more I pray the more it all worsens. I'm fed up. What did I do to deserve this? If I don't get some kind of relief I'm quiting this God business. I'm tired and afraid!
16And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. 17But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
19Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. 21For as the Father...
Is the earth and universe old? Are there scientific evidences that can prove this?
Recently I started a thread examining evidences supplied by Answers in Genesis about a young earth. There were a lot of responses and discussions and I found overall that the science could neither persuade or dissuade me from a conviction that we live in a young universe which is in essence based on the bible and a belief in miracles.
But 2 arguments for an old universe really bother me.
1) Overlapping tree rings. Radagast used this one in the aforementioned thread. While the oldest tree trunk on which tree rings have been counted reaches only 5000 years. When you compare patterns of fossilised tree trunks from dead trees in the same forest you can go...
Simple, but true.
Abraham was given a look into the future, this is what allowed him to go through with what G-d asked of him, to sacrifice his only son.
When Yeshua was accused of blasphemy in the gospel of John 8
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57 Then said the Jews unto him, 'Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?"
58 Jesus said unto them, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM."...
Repentance is Not a Change of Mind.
Many think that just believing in Jesus as one's Savior and that He died and had risen on their behalf is "repentance" (i.e. a change of mind or belief in the gospel). While we must believe in the gospel and Jesus Christ as our Savior, that is not "repentance." If we were to look for the definition for the word "repentance", it cannot be found by looking at a Lexicon or some dead language that we did not grow up writing or speaking. Repentance can easily be defined by reading the Bible in your own language and by looking at the context.
What is Repentance?
Jesus defined repentance for us.
He said in Matthew 12:41 that the Ninevites will rise up in Judgment against this generation because they...

Hello all this is my first time here. I'm a 20 year old guy a college student. I've never had a girlfriend and don't expect to ever get married because I've always been incredibly shy and rather strange. Currently I'm a virgin and expect to remain so for the rest of my life. The college I go to is a secular college because it's much less expensive but I have a really great friend who happens to be a girl. She's a really devout Christian and so we get along well together. She's sooo pretty too she's got blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair and has a really nice and kind personality. She's a great friend to me and we hang out a lot. Trouble is I can't keep my mind from drifting toward sinful thoughts about her. Often I imagine hugging...
