Why is God tormenting me?

    Listen to my story…

God won’t stop tormenting me. He brings much evil upon me and I can’t stop him. Yes, he also does some good to me, for which I am thankful. He blesses me with some food, a little money, a roof over my head, a vehicle that works well and a few nice clothes. He has also made me reasonably attractive, given me good parents, family and friends and lots of other enjoyable things in my life. He has also blessed me with extraordinary wisdom, charisma, communication skills and so on. For these things, I am thankful. In fact, it feels good just to reflect on the few blessings I actually *do* have!

Nevertheless, there is much evil that God brings on me as well. Perhaps it is deserved. Like all human beings on earth, I am not perfect. Of course, no one is. Anyhow, God brings evil upon me in that he will not give me a job. I cannot get a job, no matter what I do. I’ve been unemployed for ages now. I want to start my own business but he will not allow me to. God allowed my finances to be destroyed, too. I went from having excellent credit, to enormous debt – and I was even tithing too! (I realize that tithing does not guarantee he will be happy with me, now.) He has also caused me to desire a wonderful relationship with someone of the opposite sex, yet he refuses to answer that prayer. It is clear he has no intention of fulfilling such a desire, unfortunately for me. I assume this may be related to the fact that I have made it a practice to look at things he may not approve of. I also use profanity at times, which some Christians believe may be a sin. So this is my punishment. Even when I repent, he does not change his punishments. Sometimes I’d prefer it if he would just kill me instead and be done with it. But that would alleviate my pain, so naturally he won’t do it.

So, I have a simple request. Please go to God and pray for me that he will STOP tormenting me with poverty, failure and a lack of a mate. That is ALL I ask. I’m sure he has his reasons and all that. I imagine my suffering is amusing to watch. But nevertheless, I am growing very tired of it and would like it to stop. Please pray for him to stop doing this to me and I will be happy.

    Thank you.

It sounds like you have been taught that all decisions come from God. Humans make decisions too. Humans scam each other, blacklist each other from jobs, run their cars into mailboxes, steal from friends' houses, lure away friends' girlfriends.

Those things are not from God. They are not His will, and they are not His action.

Life is difficult for everyone in this world, and hard work doesn't always pay off the way it should. Devotion to God doesn't always ensure comfort.

Look around your environment, and see if there are things you need to change; you might be near people who are dragging you down. Pray that God would reveal to you what the problem is, and how you can correct it.

    Hi,

I just want to say, I think you are pointing a finger at God for things He did not do. God did not cause you to desire someone else. That came from your own heart. As far as economic difficulties and employment issues, not only you are facing that, many other people are as well. At the end of the day, life is a gift. I would encourage you to focus on the blessings you do have. You could be sleeping on a dirt floor with no access to clean water. None of us have perfect lives. None of us can have everything we want here. That does not mean God is tormenting us; we live in a place where people have free will to do what they want with it. That has the potential to positively or negatively effect other people including you and me in any area; that means economy, love life, etc. There is a place where everything will be perfect, and that's called Heaven. I think the question is will you be faithful to God whether or not He gives you everything you want in this life. You talked about the blessings God has given you, since you are unemployed is there anyway you can seek to bless other people with those gifts God has given you? Is there anyway you can grow as a person and spiritually through this time in your life? What lessons can you learn through this season? I think this may be a time for you to give instead of looking to get. God has already blessed you, not with everything you want, but that should not be a requirement for you to stay in a relationship with Him. I think honestly, you need to repent and seek forgiveness from God for pointing a finger and accusing Him of "tormenting" you. You have been blessed by God in many ways, I think you need to be thankful and stop slandering God for not giving you things in this life He never promised you. He gave you His Son, and the possibility to have eternal life with Him forever in Paradise; isn't that enough?

    --------------------------
Acts 2:38 "And Peter replied, repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

eric, you are gnostic? The bible clearly says God does all these things to people. He controls everything.

flowerforever7, I was trying to focus on the positive aspects of my life. I mentioned all the good things I could think of, without being overly boring or drawn-out. I am a happy, positive person... but it seems God is not interested in making me happy. In fact, I think my happiness bothers him so he tries to take it away. All I asked for was for some believers to pray for me, maybe he will listen if you guys pray. He does not listen to me.

And yes, he did give me the desire for a mate. That is godgiven by creation and design. He made me this way, so it was his doing. I hear that a lot, that I'm not the only one. But that doesn't make me feel any better. In fact, it makes me feel worse. It is unfair to make others suffer too, not just me. I don't need to repent because what I said is the truth. It's in the bible that good and evil come from God and he alone brings it on us. So it is his doing.

How do I make him stop doing it to me, then?

You can question me, and call me all kinds of things but...

I think you have to be real careful in charging GOD with evil!

First, you are wise to look at what God has given you. Most of us are truly blessed when compared to previous eras and most of the world today. I'm not sure what country you are from, but if a person earns $10,000 US per year, he/she is richer than 87% of the world. Even $1,000 US per year makes you richer than more than half of the world!

If you had more money, a mate, and less failure, you would quickly find something else to be discontent about. That's the problem with the "if only" frame of mind. I know that you believe that you'd be happy if only x, y, and z. It NEVER works out that way. Happiness gained from worldly success is only temporary. The only true way to find true contentment and joy is through a relationship with God, and the changes in perspective that God's word brings.

I will pray for you, but your torment is not coming from God. It's from the Devi's plan to make us seek contentment from the world.

    @ Lone,
Honestly, I think you need to come to grips with the fact that you are not going to get every little thing your heart desires. Though it's natural to have the desires you mentioned, using them as a means to sinfully lust after them to the point you slander God for not giving them to you is greedy and wrong. You are very bold in trying to make God out to be vile in character for not satisfying your desires. God is holy, righteous; and owes nothing to you. But Jesus has been MORE than gracious by willingly giving Himself up as a sacrifice for your sins so that you could have the opportunity to have eternal life in paradise. I remind you of the many Scriptures that talk about how in this life we will have trouble, and that there are those who are first in this life that will be last, and those who are last that will be first. I have had heartfelt desires and prayed and not recieved what I asked for, but the more I live life I see the wisdom of God saying no or wait to some of the most heartfelt requests I've prayed. But we don't always get explanations to no, and wait, while here on this earth. That is when we need to have FAITH in God's character, that He is who He says He is, (Love, holy, righteous, and without sin). Also, consider the apostles, these men were martyred for the sake of Christ; tormented, beaten, without food and shelter yet they were faithful anyway. They didn't slander God when they had nothing to eat in their belly or fell on hard times. They were faithful anyway. Now they are enjoying eternal paradise with God where they will never have pain, mourning, sadness or death. Let that inspire you to have a spiritual focus, one on eternal things rather than getting temporary things in this world, that you eventually will lose anyway because they are temporary. Having earthly desires and praying for them is not wrong, but you need to understand that you WILL NOT get every thing you pray for. You need to resolve to be okay with that, with eternity in view, and a heart that esteems and does not slander God no matter what your circumstances are. Our true treasure is laid up in Heaven. I strongly encourage you to get out your Bible, use the concordance and look up Scriptures that have to do with coveting things in the world.

Here are some Scriptures that can be helpful for you to meditate on for your situation:

Phillipians 4:11 - 13"Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."

James 4:2-10 "You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."

1 Corinthians 7:29-31 "What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they do not; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away."

Mark 4:18-20 "Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

1 Peter 1:3-9 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:13 "Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."

God bless & prayin for you.

That's not evil. You cannot serve two masters. Choose whom you will serve, money or God?

The time is coming when no one will be able to buy or sell without having the mark of the beast. If he gives you a job now, he'll only strengthen your ties to the World.

Pick up your boot traps and stop blaming God for things he isn't doing.

Ro 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Do you have the holy spirit? He will give you the power to live a christian life. Human effort alone can't do this. Pray and you will get it. This will give you the inner strength to live the christian life.

Take one day at a time and get some inspirational friends that love God by their actions. Read the bible and pray daily. Get involved in a serious church. Its a life long lifestyle and you will know God more and more. True faith is demonstrated by actions than then the feelings will come. Feelings alone are like a roller coaster. Feel free to email me if have questions.

Find out what jobs are in demand and acquire the skills. When doors open its Gods will-when they shut they aren't. What are you doing about your condition? Be relentless and pray-don't ever give up.

1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.

1Pe 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.

I have had all kinds of trials:laid off many times when I contracted, have a chronic medical condition for life that is life threatening, been bankrupt-do I need to mention more? I got closer to God and he brings you through these trials. You may fall down but you get up an keep walking because your still breathing!

I believe you when you say God is punishing you. Why? Because he's punished me before too. In fact, he's punished me for long, protracted periods in my life.

I've learned that the more you suffer, the more you really care. In other words, it's not punishment, it's a trail of sorts. He wants to give you adversity, to see how you deal with it. To know that you can bear some hardship for the betterment of yourself, and for the betterment of your fellow Christians.

God does not torment you. He may be letting the world and satan torment you. What you need to understand is that all actions have consequences. Having lost many millions 3 times in my life I can hear you but God is not doing it. You have caused or allowed it to happen. Yes you may not have been in complete control and the world and satan have been working against you but God is with you.

Just move on and seek God's advice and follow it in the future. Trials and tribulations are testing allowed by God to make you grow stronger and closer to Him. If you blame Him you are moving into the wrong direction.

Pray, study and seek God and His will. You may need to get some strong believers to join you.

God controls everything, even satan. God torments you during your life. Not maliciously, not tormenting for tormenting's sake, but because we are all sinners. He could save us all in split second, yet he doesn't. Why? Because in order to enjoy salvation we, each individual, must earn it in our own way. Piety is only half of it, the struggle, the questioning, the uncertainty accounts for the other half - IMO.

Yes, have faith in God. But he is the one putting us thru this crucible, don't ever forget that. He blessed us free will for a reason.

If God is having fun tormenting me, keeping me poor (and yes, I am destitute), doesn't want me to have a job (that's a new one to me) and enjoys giving me desires which are good, normal and natural only to torment me by never giving them to me, can he just kill me instead? That's not too much to ask for.

Please pray that God will kill me. Thank you.

Also, I read my bible all the time and know many very "strong" believers. They just spew lies about God being good, despite the bible saying otherwise. Shows they don't even read it.

Nothing can happen unless God allows it.

But because He allows something doesn't mean He approves of it.

Yet if /when He allows that which He disapproves, it can only be that He already has a remedy in place which will cleanse away all sin and evil - Otherwise, He wouldn't allow it.

God is jealous, and the LORD revenges; the LORD revenges, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserves wrath for his enemies.
The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
He rebukes the sea, and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers: Bashan languishes, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languishes.
The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knows them that trust in him.
But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.
    <-----> Nahum 1:2-9

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
    <-----> Revelation 21:1-5

And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
    <-----> Job 1:13-22

Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
    <-----> James 5:10+11

May The Lord Be Pleased to Bless !

There is a difference between punishment and correction. Most of the scriptural instances of God allowing negative circumstances, were due to a need for purification and character-building.

Temporary correction builds toward better futures. Melting the dross out of silver, iron sharpens iron... these are strong themes in scriptures. Keep reading.

God build up an amazing plan for our forgiveness from sin, so any negative circumstances are not about punishment. They are parental strategies to make sure you grow up in the faith wise and strong.
If we have turned over our life to live for Him, then we need to regularly humble ourselves. When we get to this point where we catch ourselves putting our own agendas before God's, then it's time for self-reflection.

When things are not working out well, it is important to see where our priorities lie. I have had a few times where situations got worse, but I knew it was because I had not put God first -- really put Him first -- in that situation. I allowed the job or the relationship to be my source, my goal, my ideal, my focus.

    Isn't that the truth! Heh.

So God putting me through this garbage is his way of trying to make himself more important in my life / to me? That seems like a rather roundabout way of doing things.

Unless one is overtly religious, and possibly not in one's right mind, I don't know of too many people who would dare assume poverty, desitution and joblessness are 'good' things. If those are "good" things then the church needs to stop asking for money and start telling people to quit their jobs and all become bohemians instead. Same with the mate stuff. They should start preaching about the so-called virtue of singleness and celibacy, as they have in times past. Of course, when people end up leaving because of the doctrine of demons being taught /or the church dies out because there are no new believers being born physically, they might regret their decision.

The truth is, there is nothing wrong with having a goal to have a good job, business or relationship. Somewhere along the line, religion has blinded people to these simply truths and created the imagine of a jealous, petty god. This is hardly helpful.

Lastly, I can say 9 / 10 times I am a very content and happy person. However, one need not be happy with their external circumstances, like mine. One can learn to be happy in SPITE of them, not BECAUSE of them. However, I can safely say that I would be infinitely more EXTERNALLY happier if I had a job, income, was in my dream career and had a wonderful mate. I'm no pessimist. I would rejoice even more so over the wonder that I had in my life! However... the fact is, I don't have that.

The idea of "Oh well, you're just going to have to accept it because you can't have everything you want" is asking a bit much of me. To say that is to say; not only - 'Stop dreaming' but also, that what I am expecting is "too great". What I would be very interested in knowing is this: How is it "too great" or too much to expect a decent, good paying job that I enjoy and a good mate to go with it??? Even secular people acknowledge that a man cannot be fulfilled in life without love and work.

I am trying not to be blunt, but if I were a potential employer or girlfriend and heard "how can I make [God] do..." then you would immediately be off my list. (God, employer, girlfriend, whatever.)

I am only saying this because you asked. If you are not getting a job or a girlfriend, then look at what you are not offering to them, that they would feel they could benefit from. They will not take you on, unless they see it will be mutually beneficial.

The stance appears to be on getting, rather than giving. If a person wants to gain, they must give up. The last shall be first. If asked to carry something a mile, carry it two. If you want a client's business, you take them out to dinner first. These are not just principles of Christianity -- they are principles in how humans react. Getting requires giving.
