Why is everybody so afraid of Islam/Muslims?

According to the FBI, about 6% of terrorism in the U.S. is Muslim.

7% is Jewish :p

I'm pretty sure it'd be a no-brainer that the majority of terrorism in the U.S. would be Christian by sole virtue of there being more Christians than any other religion. I wouldn't really go by those stats.

Except that's not the case. The majority of terrorism was Latino at 42%. Christian terrorists, I assume, are somewhere in the 16% of "Other".

But, really, the population of the U.S. is irrelevant. This is terrorism *in* the U.S., not necessarily done by citizens of the U.S.

Of course, if I'm not mistaken, the statistics are mirrored in the rest of the world.

Uhhh....

The demographics don't exactly match. One is an ethnicity, the other is a religion.

You're referring to Christians?

Latinos, Communists, and Jews, for example, aren't part of the same category of demographic. I speak by category of demographic, which we were talking about religion. Last I checked, you can be a Latino Communist Jew. You can't be both a Christian and an atheist... without making some new hybrid term.

Have you ever heard of a man by the name of Osama bin Laden? Do you remember what happened in New York City on Sept. 11 2001?

Where you are from, exactly?

I wouldn't see why that's a reason to be afraid. We showed plenty that bin Laden should be afraid of us.

Seriously. I never understood it myself.

Look at what is happening in Afganistan as a result of the accidental burning of some Korans. Can you imagine the same response by the West if some Bibles got accidently burned by Muslims?

The type of terrorism is being classified by intent, not by demographic. If I am a white, male, subscriber of Dog Fancy, and Sikh who decides to blow up a cat-toy making factory out of hatred of cats, the type of terrorism isn't male, sikh, or white, but Cat-Based Terrorism.

Likewise, if a latino communist jew blows up a factory out of his communist convictions its communist terrorism. if he is part of a mexican street gang which performed public beheadings to cow a community it is latino terrorism, and if he opens up a chain of payday loan shops charging 1,200% APR its business as usual.

Christians and Muslims can be friends. I work with several Muslims and find them to be just as friendly, nice, and civil as anyone else. To eliminate the fear and hatred of groups we don't understand, we must start at home. As a Christian, I am open to all friendships. I'm not exclusive.

I believe the demographics are divided up by the group each terrorist identifies himself/herself with. For example, Bin Laden identifies himself by his religion, while La Raza identifies itself by race, and leftist extremists identify themselves by political ideology. Each group or individual commits acts of terror based on the group/cause they identify with, not the other demographics they may happen to be a part of. Ivf I'm blowing up buildings in the name of communism, it's unlikely that I would be referred to as a Buddhist or white terrorist.
