Why do you think, then, that female lions hunt and rear their young in social groups?

That is, of course, for better hunting and care of the young---but it is still the dominant male that decides who's genes are going to keep going--and he doesn't care about what's best for the tribe, it's his genes, period, as far as he's concerned, he is the tribe.

That means that the "farmers" were giving you food from their own stock, which is altruism. Begs the question.

The question what did they receive? Protection, meat, knives from knife makers, salt, freshwater knowledge....people trade in lots of stuff.

why do you think evolution and natural selection has filled the world with religious people?

What NATURAL ADVANTAGE is gained by a species having faith in things that don't exist?
It's a great question.
I can't think of anything.

This would be deeply routed in psychology and would deal with coping mechanisms.

Other animals all seem to be coping well enough.

Sorry, wouldn't "real" explanations help with coping better?

Or is man less able to cope than other species?

Now the local hobby psychologist chimes in and give no evidence for his assertions but is always there to give them anyway.

So of all the animals in the animal kingdom, your saying that man knows the least about his environment, and constructing unseen forces help him to produce prolific and well adjusted offspring?

I'm not seeing support for your claim.
"Makes a lot of sense" seems like a statement with an adjenda.
"Can be shown by experiment" is what we are looking for.

Wow, it is rare for people to lie about what others have said to such a degree. I did not come close to saying any such thing.

Religious people live longer. They tend not to smoke or drink or live high risk life styles. Religious people tend to live a more celibate lifes avoiding a high death rate from Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases. Because they live longer this would give them a selective advantage.
and I have seen studies that say monogamous marrieds have more sex and have sex longer(older) and yes live longer than their
"morally free" counterparts. a man adds 10 years to his life by having a wife and more content in that life.. and has more sex than a single man .
so it is about peace and health and isn't that a better survival , isn't life about the quality of your life . but it appears monogamy in marriage is about quantity in your life and your families life also. because you can only pass down the skills of successful marriage to those closest to you , mostly your family.

What does nature do? Two top competitors fight--like 2 lions. They fight for the control of the pride. What does the winner do? He will kill all the cubs of the defeated one to get his own genes in, he could care less about the long term affects, it's going to be his genes that get passed on the and other guys are wiped out of next gene pool.
In nature, only the fittest survive. Mates are chosen for being the best of the pick, better looking, biggest, the strongest, smartest, the female chooses the best for her offspring. In humans, we will end up marrying and having children with the bottom of the barrel as far as genes are concerned if we think we love them!! There is no thought whatsoever for the benefit of the offspring or anyone else! And they don't even have to love the mate, don't even know enough about them to even like them sometimes before they end pregnant! "Best for the tribe in the long run"---not a chance!!

How are lions making out against humans?

Survival is not just, or even mainly, a competition against others of your species.

That is natural selection, if you are attacked and you die, the winner's genes are going to be the ones selected. If you are attacked and win it is yours that will be selected.

And if you fight needlessly you may be injured and lose the next fight.

Coyotes are far smarter than many of the people on this board, they know better than to get into even a very unequal fight against a dangerous foe.

Winners genes are not what is selected, survivors genes are selected.

Haven't you ever been lied to to spare your feelings?

Or is man less able to cope than other species?

One would think that would be obvious.

If he can get enough people to believe him, he just might start a religion.

But the male is only half of the equation. And the male may well be driven to do no more than ensure that his DNA persists. Nevertheless, the female is obviously 'driven' to give and receive the benefits of living within a group. Clear evidence that 'what is best for the tribe' is passed from one generation to the next.
