Hello, my name Boris, I live Australia now but bfor was in Ruussia. Recently I become Christian (born agin) and I try to understand all things in Bible. My family never practice any religion, in Russia. So I not complete understand. My quesion is - why Chhristian not allowed eat pig? In Leviticuus 11 it say all animals like pig, kite, owl, moth 'detestable' which in my dictionary mean bad. SO: why god allow us to eat grasshoppr but not moth and pig? I like eating pig bvery much.

    Thank you

Hi Boris, if your read the 14th chapter of Romans, you will see that we are allowed to eat whatever our faith enables us to eat. So if you believe it's alright to eat whatever you want, no one should condemn you for doing so. In short, I'm basically saying it's Ok to eat pig, since your faith allows you to.

Ah, thank you so much. Now I understand. bUT why it say one thing in that part of book and different in Roman 14? So god change his mind then? Anyway I am glad I can still eat pig WHEW! Actually I read Roman 14 now i UNderstand better, people who are weak cannot eat pig, if you are strong with strong faith then you can eat anything, so also it say if you eat pig with another man who is weak faith then you make that person stumble. SO still i cannot eat pig with weak-faith man or woman. Is ok for me because I have strong faith. THANK YOU BROTHER!

Here is a book for you to read about some modern findings for our health. It is an opinion, but may be a fairly good one, since it is backed by science.

"Eat to live", by Dr. Joel Fuhrman

We are basically told what to do: drink lots of milk, eat meat with every meal, eat lots of bread, drink sweet drinks and eat your cake. Yet, true nutrition may start and stay with the foods of the Garden of Eden.

Well, according to Peter, the vision had nothing to do with what he ate; rather, it had everything to do with acceptance of believers who are not Jews. See Acts 10:34 - 48. The Bible does not say that Peter quit eating kosher.

Also, in Acts 21:21 - 24, Paul says that he kept Torah and taught others to do the same, and the leaders were quite relieved that he did.

Furthermore, when the decision was made in Acts about Gentiles, they decided not to overwhelm the new converts immediately with too much, because they would be taught what was necessary as they continued learning.

Would I eat pig? No. Not pig, snake, fish without fins and scales, camel, people, or any other thing not considered food in the Bible. These items are not meat intended for human consumption.

Hi. I was raised Catholic and was taught to eat everything that was put before me.....I still practice that today.
I will eat my beef bloody rare, but I will never eat pork rare. If you don't feel right not eating something that is prescribed for the Jews in the Bible, the wait until you understand the Bible first, especially the New Testament/New Covenant that we non-Jewish Christians are under.....hope this helps.
You might check out this thread on how the Muslims view the eating of pork.....God bless:wave:

In the OT the Jews were told to refrain from eathing pork.. Christians are free from the law of the OT. Just make sure you cook pork completely. :)

In the Old Testament Gods people were given commands as a way to live a perfect, blessed, and healthy life. Over the course of history there arose Nicolatian groups which according to revelation are hated, these were anomians or in other words people that taught others not to follow Gods commands, their teaching are what are now taught in most of the world today. We do not eat pork or other unclean animals because they are not food, they never were food. They were named unclean to save us from a life time of health problems.

Every animal God made was good but not good for everything. Most of the animals deemed unclean are scavengers. A pig is a scavenger of the land, as well as many of the birds. Crabs and lobsters are scavengers of the sea. When man only used to eat herbs, the clean animales were still clean and the unclean still unclean animals. Romans 14 is misinterpreted by many. From verse one we see the issue. The man who does not have faith refuses to eat meat whatsoever, while the man who has faith knows he can freely eat meat. It is not about clean vs unclean then. It is about whether one should eat meat or not. What is the cause of this debate?

Gentile christians just coming into the church would abstain from the meat sold in the market, for fear that it was offered to pagan idols and thus made unclean. That Gentile has weak faith and has not overcome his past fears of upsetting his pagan Gods. The Jews who still offer sacrifices would abstain from meat sold in the market for the same reason except for fear of consuming meat made unclean by sacrificing to God. This was a big issue in Paul's day. He also addresses this in 1 Cor 8 and 1 Cor 10.

1Co 8:7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
1Co 8:8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
1Co 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
    1Co 8:10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

1Co 10:19 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
1Co 10:20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

There is much more to the chapter but i'll leave it there for now.

rare pork is liable to give the toxaplasma gondii worm which is quite bad... however consider that in 2006 there were only 63 cases in the US so its not that common...

i thought that god said to man in the OT that to man he give all the fruits and animals of the earth bar the one tree. why is pork unclean in the first place? i eat pork and i dont have any health problems... are you sure the bible isnt being mis-interpreted on this one?

Well, I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but in the beginning (in Gen), it actually says that it was plants and fruit that all the animals and humans were to eat...eating meat, if I remember correctly, came in after the flood...whether you take that literally or no, is up to you.
Pork being unclean may very well be, as a poster above stated, that pork (not cooked properly) can cause illness. Also, (I suppose), these countries were hot...I should think meat could go off quickly...maybe that would foster whatever it is in pork that's bad, to multiply more quickly, so be more risky..but as I say I'm not well up on this.

No, no misinterpretation. Just as you would not eat all plants, we are not to eat all animals. All animals were not given for food. The scripture clearly states that pigs are not food, nor are sharks, squid, crows, skunks, porcupines, cats, dogs, octopus, snakes, and more.

Not long ago I was in a Cuban restaurant and ordered alligator. I was not impressed with the taste of it, but I had no difficulty eating it. I also lived to tell about it.

I have eaten pork all of my life, along with other critters. Others may have reasons, religous or otherwise, from not eating certain things and I will not judge them for it. Nor do I find it in scripture where others should judge me for my eating choices.

Pretty much everyone has covered the general issues, basically, eat a lot of wild pig, you are going to get sick. Health issues from pig are not the same today.

Now to back pedal a bit. All of Leviticus was not just a bunch of laws for the sake of it.

The Israelites had just come out of 400 years of slavery where all they did was make bricks all day every day. They had no economy, no authority, no culture, no laws. Gods plan was to set his chosen people on a path to receive the Messiah as the redemption for sin.

But if he sent Jesus out to Israelites in the desert, they would not have accepted him. They were not ready, this is going to take a long time.

God delivered to them hundreds of laws and statutes, lots of them seeming trivial, silly, or even cruel to us. However many of these had the purpose to establish a mindset in the Israelites, so that eventually they would recognise Jesus and receive his salvation.

The main thing that God needed Israelites to know, is that "redemption is only possible through the sacrifice of innocent blood" They were sacrificing lambs, they didnt know it, but their minds were being prepared minds to accept the sacrifice of Jesus.

What Jesus means when he says he has come to "fulfill the Law and the Prophets ( that means Old Testament scriptures), which he did on the cross. "It is finished"

We no longer have to serve under Leviticus, because Gods purpose for that is complete.

Jews and Gentiles will look at the Scriptures differently concerning foods I would think.......

Romans 14:14 I have known and am persuaded in Lord Jesus that nothing unclean thru himself, except to the one accounting any being-unclean/koinon <2839> to be, to that one being-unclean/koinon <2839>. [Genesis 9:33]

Romans 14:20 No account of food be throwing down! the work of the God.
All indeed pure/kaqara <2513>, but evil to the man the one thru stumbling eating.
