You don't have to name where you live, but what are 5-10 pro's and con's of the area? You can focus on pro's and con's of the town/city or the broader region if you want.

What works for you? What doesn't?

Just as an example, I'll go ahead...

Pro's
- Big enough: still feels like a small town but large enough to have just about anything you'd want.
- Nature, there's a lot of it around here
- Good university that offers a lot to the community
- Culturally diverse for the size of the town
- Home to some amazing businesses
- Generally loved by everyone who comes through here
- Falls are amazing, benefit of being The City of Trees
- Good hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, mountain climinb, etc nearby
- Great music scene

Con's
- Not on the main interstate so sometimes it's overlooked
- Not enough rain
- Stupid party school reputation self perpetuates
- Summers are blistering hot
- Communications duopoly
- Too many hippies
- Outsiders run for city council and ruin the town

I live in a town of 1100 that is within 15 miles of 2 college towns with a combined population of around 60k. I'm right on the Idaho/Washington border.

My pros/cons may not line up with a lot of others on here...

Pros:

- Four seasons with not too brutal winters and not too hot summers.
- World-class fishing within an hour drive.
- World-class hunting within an hour drive.
- Just about every outdoor activity you can imagine from snow skiing to rock climbing.
- Very low crime rates/road rage.
- Little to no traffic.
- Low property taxes.
- Reasonably conservative area.
- Universities provide lots of cultural opportunities.
- Diversity without the ghetto or bario.

Cons:

- High gas prices (it's a weird anomaly. I paid $2.55 a gallon yesterday).
- Highest percentage of liberals in the region.
- Low wages.
- Higher housing costs relative to wages/jobs available.
- No Home Depot/Costco/Sam's Club, etc.
- Businesses cater mostly to college kids.
- Washington state has more restrictive gun laws than Idaho.
- Churches don't have evening or mid-week services.
- Not many single women over 35yrs old and Christian.
- Everyone drives at the speed limit or under on mostly 2-lane highways with no passing.
- No steak places.

Thats ANYWHERE. Welcome to sports.

Name any of the top 5 cities in America that isn't.

New York - Dirty and over populated

LA- Dirty and overpopulated with people believing they are soon to be celebs.

Chicago - Never been but I hear its corrupt and dirty and what I have seen of the other 2 I believe it.

Then comes Houston - So its exactly up there with any big city.

The rest you say is true though. Although, I disagree with the "large area" being a con. It disperses the mass of people. Unlike a place such as NY where everyone lives on top of everyone else. THAT is a con.

Housing is stupidly expensive here. A one bedroom apartment can cost around $850 a month and the owners can jack up the prices by however much they want every year.

Is that $850CAD? Cause that's about $636USD, which sounds amazing.

PROS:
-Good place if you like fishing, camping and hunting.
-The oil industry can allow any high school dropout make $40 an hour.
-One of the largest aircraft bases in the country.
-Small enough to walk everywhere.

CONS:
-The alcoholic capital of this part of the province.
-Hardly anything to do except watch the cows mate.
-Miles away from civilization.
-Since the oil crash, the town went into recession.
-The men here act like they're on steroids and the women are gold diggers.
-The Canadian Aboriginal community here is so hard hit with problems such as drugs, crime and unemployment that they are considered the laughing stock of the Albertan Aboriginal People.
-With a military aircraft base, we always have fighter jets flying, making a lot of loud noise when they do.
-Crime, drugs and rowdy locals plague the town and the police here already have enough on their plate.
-My town made world news for vandalizing a mosque.
-Very transient town. If you make a friend, don't expect them to be around for very long.
-The climate goes to extremes. Goes as high as over 30 C (86 F) during summer and as low as under -30 C (-22 F) during winter.
-The terrain in so rough that 95% of the vehicles you see here are trucks and mini vans.
-Housing is stupidly expensive here. A one bedroom apartment can cost around $850 a month and the owners can jack up the prices by however much they want every year.
-And much, much more...
Wait...YOU'RE CANADIAN!?!?! I thought you were American this whole time.

Actually when I went to Chicago I was suprised at how clean and beautiful their downtown area was.

Do you live in a city? Because I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. A friend once told me before moving back to Newfoundland that here, you would have to make a minimum of $15 an hour in order to afford all the expenses. The oil fields really jacked up all the prices for a town with so little to offer.

I live in a college town with about 87,000 people. I've never thought of it as a city since I'm about 80 miles from Sacramento (450,000) and 175 miles from San Francisco (860,000). I got by making about $8.50-9.50USD/hr.

Isn´t that a pro? :D

No I'm not trying to say my place is more bad--- than hell.:p

It's a literally bad, like bad-bad place. It reeks of squalor, crime, misery, and hopelessness. Not easy to get out of either. It's only just a few tweaks to being like North Korea where justice literally does not exist.
