Isa 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
Isa 17:2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
Isa 17:3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
Isa 17:4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.
Isa 17:5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.
Isa 17:6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.
Isa 17:7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.
Isa 17:8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
Isa 17:9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.
Isa 17:10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
Isa 17:11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
Isa 17:12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
Isa 17:13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
Isa 17:14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

Yes, the Jews in America are dictating policy so the Muslims can be exterminated. They control Hamas to have a legitimate reason to attack Gaza and they control ISIS so they can kill more Muslims. It's all a Zionist conspiracy! Putin is the only one who can save us because he did not accept the mind control helmets that Bush invented. Iraq was only attacked for the oil! 9/11 was also perpetrated by the Jews so that they could bomb more Muslims.

Because bombing Muslims is the only fun thing to do these days..

</sarcasm>

You really need to get some new material, ManFromUncle. This conspiracy stuff is still entertaining, but maybe you can add some new protagonists to the twist. Like, try to get a background story as to why the Jews always want to eradicate the Muslims - or give them new superpowers! That would be totally funny! :D

In more seriosity: Yeah, bombing the IS in Syria is okay, but I don't give much for arming the "moderate rebels".

And after President Obama, quote, "degrades and destroys" ISIS, who'll fill the power vacuum left behind? Assad's terror régime, yet another AQI-ISI-ISIL, Shias, Sunnis, Saudi-backed Salafists?

Indeed, that's a good question. :( Unfortunately, I don't think we'll like the answer.

We also need to realize that the Islamic State actually has quite a bit of support by the Sunni locals. You can bomb away their military, but that won't change the roots of their ideology.

So depressing and hypocritical. Assad unleashes chemical weapons that painfully kill the Syrians (and is still engaging in chemical warfare today), Obama's red line, and kills hundreds of thousands of Sunnis....but nothing is done except for lots of words. Some relatively small group commits some grave crimes but not to the extent of Assad....and this leads to the bombing of Syria and Iraq nearly right away. And already there are reports of the fighters in Syria besides ISIS being killed in American airstrikes, including in regions where ISIS is not operating. This is what I feared. I am so upset with both ISIS for its crimes against non-combatants & for ruining things for the Sunni rebels and the hypocrisy of the West. "Allaah [alone] is sufficient for us and He is the best Disposer of affairs."

People wonder why some Muslim countries or why some Sunni rebels won't join hands with the US against ISIS. It's not because they agree with ISIS (they were fighting against them on their own & did not desire foreign intervention), it's partly because they know that it's won't just be a fight against ISIS....somehow they will be screwed over as well. And it could also partly be because of the hypocritical stance of the Western nations regarding Assad vs. their stance regarding ISIS.

Interesting then that the Syrian National Coalition is welcoming the action and saying that long term view has to be moderate as well as action against ISIS required.

Yeah I somehow doubt that Qatar and Saudi Arabia are helping exterminate muslims, especially since the ones targeted by the strikes have been of their own sects. Some of the Muslim powers have grown tired of extremism and the problems it brings.

I don't think you want to be pointing the finger at the West for Assad's crimes. It was mainly the backing by Russia and China that stopped the US from intervening - along with the fact that they made very bad experiences with the rest of the Arab spring (which prompted religious islamofascist governments to be put into power instead of secular democracies as initially hoped).

Then again, it's kind of typical for the Arab world to once again blame someone else (preferably the "West"). It's easier than actually coming to terms with the fact that ISIS is behaving the way good ol' Mohammad did (including child marriages and mass executions! :)).

It could also be the hypocritical stance of Sunni Muslims who decry ISIS with their mouths and support it with their hands.

For example....?

Fyi, Sunnis Muslims were appealing to ISIS to stop what they were doing long before they became a household name in the US. Scholars issued statements telling them that what they are doing is forbidden. The Sunni rebels in Syria wanted them to go to a joint court with a neutral judge (who would rule by Islaamic rules) but ISIS refused to cooperate even though they claim to want to rule by God's laws. And so they fought against ISIS with their hands.

Interesting then that the Syrian National Coalition is welcoming the action and saying that long term view has to be moderate as well as action against ISIS required.

And yet the military wing previously said they would not be joining in the fight against ISIS: Free Syrian Army will not join US-led coalition against IS | Middle East Eye

So, at the very least, it shows that even the "secular" rebels (many of whom are still probably considered religious to those in the West) are divided about this attack. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I read this from, but the FSA said that it wanted assurance that Assad would be fought against as well.

The readiness of the US to launch air strikes against Islamic State fighters in neighbouring Iraq to protect members of the Yazidi religious minority has caused further disappointment to those who once took to the streets calling for freedom and are now left suffering atrocities carried out by both Assad's forces and IS.

Yeah I somehow doubt that Qatar and Saudi Arabia are helping exterminate muslims,

Saudi Arabia supported the coup against Morsi (probably because they see everything happening in that region as a threat to their monarchy, but still) so it's not a surprise that they're helping against ISIS (and in the case of the latter, I do think action was needed to be taken against them but not by people who will use these strikes as a way to attack other rebels).

Anyway:

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Jordan all supported or participated in the military action against the extremist group, according to the U.S. Central Command.

Arab backing for U.S.-led airstrikes in Syria widens front against Islamic State - The Washington Post

Shame on any of these countries that did not lift a finger to militarily fight against Assad who has killed hundreds of thousands and dispersed chemical weapons. Shame on humanity, really.

I feel this is nothing but an Asprin factory bombing.
Make it look like he did something, but in reality just made a nice expensive light show.

Why would anyone help the US? We fight for a while, then claim victory and leave them to finish the fight alone. If we don't go in to see it finished, we shouldn't go in.

We are not going to see peace in the region that hasn't been peaceful in centuries, in the short attention span that the US has in conflicts. I also doubt, if we didn't need the middle east for oil that we would do anything to help. They have money and oil to cause problems in the world, so they can't be ignored

Looks like Islamic State's power will be destroyed even more quickly than it was built up. Soon, it'll be just another minor fanatical organisation fighting the practically unwinnable war against Assad in Syria.

I wonder how Assad views these airstrikes- no doubt, the Syrian government will publicly condemn them for being a violation of Syrian sovereignty and the fact they are carried out by a nation that only a year ago tried to topple the regime, but deep down, Assad is probably glad for the support of the world's most powerful military. He's been very astute, and it looks like by biding his time and presenting his enemies as dangerous terrorists, he has survived and can well win the civil war.

Syrian radar did not actively track the the attacking planes in Syrian air space...that's a strong indicator the Syrian government is looking the other way....

You assume that American politicians think that far ahead when it comes to our foreign policy.

Hahah, they don't. They are complete idiots.

Assad is claiming victory. He's pretending that they're on his side.

It's going to take some doing to keep that from being the case.
