I will, but first answer this one:
What would you say to a child who developed autism immediately after getting a vaccine that the parents said they didn't want given to the child in the first place?

I asked first. Answer my question and I will answer yours.

There is absolutely no link between vaccinations and autism, yet there is a huge, credible link between polio and paralysis.

So your question isn't even worth considering, while theirs is.

But what you're dismissing is the fact that it has happened on more than one occasion. It needs to be addressed rather than dismissed, especially in the case of a parent who is truly concerned with vaccine safety.

There is no link. It literally does not happen.

Well, you'll have to try explaining that to those who it has happened to. They may not be convinced by someone on a message board.

It is up to them to demonstrate that the vaccine caused the autism. It isn't up to us to disprove it. Correlation does not imply causation. Like others have said, why focus on just the vaccine? Why not what the child had for dinner, or the pollen in the air that day?

For polio, we do have evidence that it directly causes paralysis. There really were people who couldn't walk because of polio infections.

So what we have is a false association v. a very real disease.

Sadly, them being convinced by lies spread on the Internet is exactly the problem.

To check with autism organizations regarding the claim that vaccines cause autism.

Guess what, with millions of children getting vaccinated every year and the normal time for the first signs is in that age range there will be some instances where the first signs of autism are seen immediately following vaccination.

What if the government required me to get surgically implanted wings so that I could fly everywhere instead of adding to the traffic?

Jonathan Swift would have had a field day with modern-day anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists.

Yes, but he still would never convince the yahoos!

(Please someone besides Artemis97 tell me you understood the reference)

Sorry Arte, you get the Lisa Simpson treatment on this one.

Bolding mine.

Actually it should be are. My 10th grade class president had unless legs because of polio. Those my age are about the last of those who had friends and classmates who died or were crippled by polio. It is interesting how anti vax seems to be catching on as we reach retirement age. Perhaps it ism that we are the last of those who cannot forget history on this point.

I would say "it is a shame that you are the first reliably recorded instance of this literally ever happening", because there have been many enormous studies showing absolutely no link between autism and vaccines.
