There are still cases of tetanus every year. Most all occur in unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated persons. IV drug use can be a risk factor, too. Not to derail the thread, but this is telling information:
"A review of tetanus in U.S. children under age 15 years from 1992 through 2000 found that 11 of the 13 non-neonatal cases occurred in children who were unvaccinated because of religious or philosophic objections."
It is sad. But be thankful for the medical advances that mean most people who contract it survive, and millions who may otherwise have caught it nowadays don't.
