My take is that I am a Christian, I use the Methodist tag to indicate what type of Christian, much like you would label brands of ice cream - they may all be vanilla, but each has a slightly different flavor.

Sometimes the denominational tag is helpful in understanding a person's outlook on scripture and how to apply it to daily life. Or their views on thngs such as baptism and communion. By having a head's up ahead of time about a person's position can save a lot of toes from being stepped on.

We are all a part of the body of Christ - just not all the same parts.
We are all members of the Church - we just don't all sit in the same pew.
