[ 1 Corinthians 12:31]; But covet earnestly the best gifts yet show I unto you a more excellent way.
It is a wonderful thing to desire and cultivate the greatest and best gifts.But after you have grown in these, after you have mastered them, Paul says there is an excellent way. Your gifting might never edify a man. It might puff you up and give you a certain status but only love is guaranteed to edify.
He explains the limitations of the gifting in this life of the spirit and of the gospel.It means that even if you gain mastery in the prophetic and you are that prophet of prophets, there is a point beyond which you cannot minister to the spirits of men.
The Bible says that God is love. A man who has not fully understood love cannot fully minister God because the apprehension of the depth, height width and breadth of love is so we may be filled with the fullness of God.From this fullness does a man minister.
This love has been shed abroad in your heart.You are in a position to comprehend all its dimensions and out of this you minister child of God.
