The strength of sin

[1 Corinthians 15:55-56]; O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law.

When Paul asks, 'death, where is your sting?’ it is in the context of a victory that has done away with the sting of death. Because the sting of death is sin, sin has been done away with.

After the redemptive power of Calvary, sin lost the ability of consequence. Understand that God's ministry in forgetting men's sins is not just primarily out of the love that covers but also because by the mind of God, something as powerless as sin does not warrant attention.

When we talk of the strength of sin, this is sin the nature and not just the actions produced by the nature. This nature is the human nature that has always been susceptible to corruption. What gives it strength, the Bible says, is the law.

Giving it strength means magnifying its propensity for weakness. When the scriptures say that the law makes men high priests which have infirmity, the amplification of this scripture is that it sets up men in their weakness as frail, sinful dying human beings.

What it means is that there is absolutely no place of liberty because it is a set up. There is a perfect stage set for any weakness to be played out to its despicable end. If the weakness is theft, the law creates every conducive circumstance for you to steal. If it is perversion, the law creates every conducive circumstance for you to be perverse.
