Many Christians know that there are two testaments in the Bible. However, not many of them truly understand that there are two testaments in the Bible. Their definition of the substance of the testaments is based on the form as given by biblical translators and scholars.
Heritage under the New Testament differs from heritage under the Old Testament. The promises as given under the Old Covenant are distinct from those as granted under the New Testament. As such, a person under the Old Testament cannot seek heritage under the New Covenant and a person under the Old Covenant cannot seek heritage under the New Covenant.
When the scriptures say that the prophets of old inquired into the grace that was to come, it means that what they beheld in the future experiences by the New Creature was the grace of God. This defines the very spirit of prophesy as being the testimony of Jesus Christ, the person of the grace.
Like David, they saw men on whom God does not impute sin but righteousness. Like Jeremiah, they saw a life where the iniquity of the fathers cannot be visited on the children. They saw grace; not law. They saw grace; not wrath.
The Bible says that when Christ meets the disciples on the road to Emmaus, he started to expound about himself from the Law of Moses and the prophets. Now the New Creature can only look to the Old Testament to find the New Testament; to find the grace that they of old inquired into.
We dont search the Old to discover what the Old had to say about itself. We search the old to understand what it says about the new.
