When the Bible says eternal torment it means just that, ETERNAL TORMENT. No and's if's or but's.
To many people today are preaching a different Gospel message and are choosing to water down the true preachings of the Lake of Fire and eternal torment and suffering. No one wants to think that God would allow that to happen to anyone but the truth of the matter is that you end up in Hell and The Lake of Fire then you have no one to blame but yourself for it.
If we were all going to end up in Heaven eventually then God would never have needed to send his Son to die on the Cross for our sins. Its up to you to accept it or reject it.

and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble:
and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts,

finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things,
and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed:
so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us,
