THE FALLEN WORLD

"This is the world that you know. The world as it was at the end of the twentieth century. It exists now only as part of a neural-interactive simulation that we call the Matrix. You’ve been living in a dream world, Neo. This is the world as it exists today... Welcome.. to the desert.. of the real."

By coming to understand what the Matrix is Neo comes to know that the world has fallen into the hands of the machines or A.I. (Artificial Intelligence). A rebellion and war occurred between man and machine and the result was a world that came to exist through a neural-interactive simulation called the Matrix.

Scripture tells us that mankind also is in a lost state since the Fall of Man. The story of Adam and Eve depicts a time when mankind had everything needed to live and more. It explains that Adam and Eve both were tempted by Satan and sinned by eating of the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Satan told Eve that her eyes would be opened and that she would "be like God" (Genesis 3:5).

By eventually deciding to eat the fruit Adam and Eve both defied God’s authority, pushed him aside and decided for themselves what was best for their lives. From this moment that man chose to live a self-directed life and not listen to God, everything was to be different. Man chose to be his own God and do things his own way. The rebellion against the Creator began and sin entered the world.

What is the Matrix for us?

It is a world where we can believe that we can be our own God and live a self-directed and self-centered life. Where there are only our rules and our wants. The Matrix is an illusion created to keep us under control: under the control of sin, selfishness and the popular ways of the world. It is a system that we are plugged into that leads us to a lifestyle of self-indulgence, instant gratification and pleasure. Where everything revolves around us and how it makes us feel. It is a place where truth and Jesus are not welcome.

"Don’t love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you cannot love the Father. Our foolish pride comes from this world, and so do our selfish desires and our desire to have everything we see. None of this comes from the Father. The world and the desires it causes are disappearing. But if we obey God, we will live forever." – 1 John 2:15-17 (CEV)

"Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you." – Romans 12:2 (MSG)
