• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I really have been thinking on this,

all my family is concerned with is compitition, our lights have to be better than anyone elses, I really think that the commercialism of christmas has turned it into the worst thing possible, evil.

think for a min. isn't christmas about the birth of christ? no some old fat guy in a red suit?

I am really dissapointed, I don't know why this is hitting me now, but just seeing my mom and dad sit down and talk behind our neighbor's backs about there decorations and every thing. it just makes me think that they care less and less about the actual meaning.

and anyways, how do little lightbulbs and inflatable santa clauses give praise to god for the deliverance of his son?

this year, my brother who happens to be 20, ge started 1 day about a week ago giving reason's why he thinks santa is jesus. I really don't know what to say to a thing like that other than no.

I am really starting to think that santa and commercialism, and all of the soceity imputs, there all really just out for money, noone I know even thinks about jesus anymore.

Casey,

When I was 18, I started my family, something I don't recommend doing. It gave me the opportunity to start traditions that focused on Jesus.

Why don't you see if your family would like to participate in an Advent wreath every week? Also, make a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas, and have your family celebrate by singing a praise song to Him, or just Silent Night. Set up a nativity set, if you have one. If you don't, use some of your own money, if you have some, to purchase one as a Christmas present for your parents.

Most of all, pray for your parents. The Lord can touch their hearts.

Bams481 I wouldn't think of it as your family hates you, I am sure that they do love you very much. you know the old rule, honor thy father and mother, try talking to them about it. or spend your time at church or in a mission of some sort.

oddbeani I have come to this conclusion after walking through a mall today. you see this Santa every were, I bet I saw 100 santas for every 1 nativity set. I would much rather have my picture taken in a live nativity set than having to sit on some fat guys lap. *sigh* the world has taken over the meaning of christmas and made it materialistic.

In my family, we always emphesized Christ in the weeks coming up to Christmas. We'd read from Christmas devotionals, do a lot of advent reading (along with the WONDERFUL Father Christmas Letters by Tolkien) and generally worship in the time leading up to Christmas.

On Christmas day, of course we opened presents and usually head off to a Christmas church service, but I've always found the blessing of Christmas in the season, not the day. Certainly we've adopted much of our holidays from society, but I'm convinced that doesn't make them evil! We simply need to recognize that Christmas isn't Christ-centered simply because it carries His name, we've got to make it Christ-centered by our actions.
