When did the world become so huggy? I've met people for the first time, and they want to hug me! It's odd.

My guess is that the feminizing of culture has led to this current hugfest.

My motto is, why hug when a handshake will do. (stole that line from Frasier)

What about kissing?

All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss. - 1 Corinthians 16:20
Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. - 1 Thessalonians 5:26

Different strokes for different folks (and cultures). I'm more of the 'why shake hands when a bow will do' school.

I like that even more, but in the west, it won't fly.

My complaint is with the change.

I believe in the seven churches as ages...

Ephesus - Messianic - Beginning with the Apostle to the Circumcision, Peter
Smyrna - Martyr - Beginning with the Apostle to the Un-Circumcision, Paul
Pergamos - Orthodoxy formed in this time... Pergos is a tower... Needed in the dark ages
Thyatira - Catholicism formed in this time - The spirit of Jezebel is to control and to dominate.
Sardis - Protestantism formed in this time- A sardius is a gem - elegant yet hard and rigid
Philadelphia - Wesleyism formed in this time - To be sanctioned is to acquire it with love.
Laodicea - Charismatic movement formed in this time - Beginning with DL Moody, the first to make money off of ministry

I would be shocked to get a kiss or a hug either one out of one from the Sardisean church!

It would be something to see the Pope and John MacArthur embrace and kiss one another!

I'm confused, what does "feminizing culture" have to do with anything? Also, why would feminizing culture be bad?

Everyone's different, some people like physical contact while others don't. If I were you I'd just make it clear you don't wish for a hug.

Stuff changes all the time. Take it as it comes.

This is a little too personal and intimate. I reject it. Not all things that culture come up with are improvements. In fact, they seldom improve things.

You can refuse to hug someone. It's called consent. How others choose to greet, though, is none of your business.

Women and girls like physical contact more than men do, in general.

I have no problem with women being feminine. I only wish there were more than a small minority who are. The issue is that culture has shamed boys and men by telling them masculine things are bad/evil. A very real problem with very real consequences for society and church.

It's very difficult to stop someone from hugging you, without it becoming awkward.

It's my business when it involves me.

Agreed. The traditional way is to greet with a kiss, which generally involves some level of embrace as well. Men as well. Paul didn't consider it feminine.

I don't know of it's gender specific, or even if there are gender specific qualities in regards to physical contact. I wonder if that's just a western social convention.

I don't think we should shaming anyone's expression of their gender so I'd agree on this point.

That thought just made me lose my Christmas lunch.

If the pope kissed MacArtur's ring, I would be all for it.
