If your jurisdriction includes the ghetto, then you're part of the ghetto.

Oh yes. Because the Right has been so supportive of the Left when it tries to "fix the ghetto".

Noting that the "left" has been fixing the ghetto for the past 50+ years without any apparent success.

Perhaps a somewhat different approach ... something besides money ... is needed.

We are all ears. What would this "something besides money" approach look like?

That statement doesn't even make sense.

Might help to open the link and realize Sheriff Clarke is black. Implications that this is a white racist observation then fail enormously but do succeed in reflecting racism in the observer.

“If there's anything that needs to be straightened out in this country, it is the subculture that has risen out of the underclass in the American Ghetto,” said Clarke.

“Fix the ghetto and then you'll see a lesser need for assertive police officers or policing in these areas, and then you'll see less confrontation,” he said.

“Stop trying to fix the police -- fix the ghetto!” said Sheriff Clarke.

To take a fair and balanced opinion...I think there's some things on both sides that need to be fixed.

It's just that everyone puts blinders on when it comes to their own side's problems, and directs all the focus onto the other sides issues.

The pro-police side wants everyone to focus on the crime in specific communities and ignore the fact that there are (and have been) some legitimate abuses that have been going on for far too long.

The anti-police side wants to make it all about "police brutality" and ignore the fact that there is a criminal element in certain communities that far exceeds other communities, and refuse to admit that that particular criminal element is partially to blame for why the people & the police are at odds with each other in those communities in the first place.

Sort of a "your side can do no right...my side can do no wrong" mentality coming from both ends of this national debate.

...and, as usual, with these types of extremely polarizing topics, the truth is in the middle.

Personal accountability ... things like rewarding students for accomplishments and providing assistance to those who work rather than making it more profitable for them to not work. Perhaps moving disruptive students to alternative classrooms to allow more determined students to succeed and perhaps even allowing some to fail if they have no interest in learning.

Just a few things which come to mind.

If you're a commander and can't admit that there are some things within your command that need to be changed, then you aren't fit for command.
Noting that his job is to enforce the laws of his community to the best of his ability.

I'm not the one that implied racism. ;)

Right. It's the "best of his ability" part that's tripping him up - if he can't handle someone else pointing out deficiencies in his abilities, then he isn't fit for command.

That's a weak argument ... given that he wasn't being criticized.

Noting that Sheriff Clarke and his deputies are not the police.

Being a black sheriff does not excuse him for his ignorant comments.

That's a weak argument ... given that he wasn't being criticized.

Police tactics in general have been criticized. Whether we're talking about tactics of the broader police community or of a single unit, if he can't handle some criticism being levied, and if he can't be open about some of the shortcomings, then he's a proud fool who isn't fit for command.

Noting that Sheriff Clarke and his deputies are not the police.

Really? Then what are they?
