Quick question, how many sermons have you heard promoting sex within the confines of marriage... a whole sermon encouraging you to go home a rock it with your spouse? :)

This is different then a sermon discouraging you from having sex. I think we've all heard those. I'm talking sermons of encouragement. Or simply sex in a more positive light?

Once you answer the poll, may I ask why you answered the way you did?

I answered less than ten because I cannot remember any, sex has always been treated as dirty in churches I have been in. It's funny they would always talk about what what a blessing children are but never about the joys of creating them.
So freaking sad to be honest. Why do you think that is?

Most of the sermons I've heard about sex in the church have been positive, I just haven't heard that many of them.

I don't really know for sure, evangelicals seem to hate to talk about sex. I think it has a lot to do with control, if people feel sex is dirty, then they have guilt, guilt equals good little sheep and money In the coffers, just a theory though.

I answered the way I did because....I've heard approximately that many. :eheh:

Attended a church that taught "Pure Sex" as a sermon series. Another church challenged married couples to have sex every day for a week to re-establish intimacy (that was a fun week). My current church post a sign for 13+year olds services from time to time

What type of church do you attend?
A non-denominational church, but I'll likely be leaving soon. As my views are a bit too far liberal I suspect.

...he probably attends a "free-wheeler" Baptist church. :D
I wish.

My background seems to be of interest so here goes...
Grew up in the Salvation Army church as a boy
Became an agnostic through my early teens
Baptized in a Baptist church when I was 17
Went to a Baptist Bible college after high school
(extremely conservative at this point)
Early twenties studied philosophy
Late twenties became a libertarian
(things changed at this point)
Very liberal, most likely too far liberal for most Christians.
That's about my experience in point form.

Wow! You sound a lot like me, other than that "libertarian" part, that is.

I'm going to say a lot, not because I've heard that many sermons that were solely about sex, but because I've heard a lot that had some portion of the sermon that was about sex.
But even more than that, its the whole implication that sex should be hush hush that caused me more problems than the sermons. There they were sermons from people's lives and words and actions that spoke louder than the sermon did.

The problem churches run into with making sex the basis of a sermon is that it is not "G" rated...and what do you do with all the little ears that are sitting in the pews. Like I said, my church occasionally has a PG level sermon but that also involves setting up an alternative activity (with enough volunteers) to cover the children who are not normally in a nursery or alternate classroom setting during the service time.
