Set Like Flint
Karen Holland ... 10-7-06

Lion of Judah
Hear His song
Mighty warrior
King of Glory
Rise and stand
Stand in the face of the enemy
Stand at the gate
Face set like flintTriumph over every foe

Lamb of God
Hear His song
Humble servant of all
Poured out as a drink offering
Obedient to the point of death
The perfect sacrifice
Face set like flint
At the joy set before
Death swallowed up in victory

I hear your song, Lord Jesus
The song of the Lion and the Lamb
Teach me how to follow Your example
A humble servant to all
Yet a mighty warrior, strong and bold in the Lord
The Lion and the Lamb
Help me to always bend willingly
But also to boldly, courageously take the lead
My face set like flint whenever I must
Let us shoulder to shoulder together stand

Thank You for never rebelling or drawing back
Earning salvation for us
And endless glory for Yourself.

Isaiah 50:4-8
The Lord GOD has given Me
The tongue of the learned,
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear
To hear as the learned.
The Lord GOD has opened My ear;
And I was not rebellious,
Nor did I turn away.
I gave My back to those who struck Me,
And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard;
I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.
For the Lord GOD will help Me;
Therefore I will not be disgraced;
Therefore I have set My face like a flint,
And I know that I will not be ashamed.
He is near who justifies Me;
Who will contend with Me?
Let us stand together.
Who is My adversary?
Let him come near Me.

Isaiah 12:2
Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song;
He also has become my salvation.

This expression ' I have set my face like a flint' is still on my mind -- what does this really mean?

... Flint: , n.
... 1. (Min.) A massive, somewhat impure variety of quartz, in color
... usually of a gray to brown or nearly black, breaking with a conchoidal
... fracture and sharp edge. It is very hard, and strikes fire with steel.
... 2. A piece of flint for striking fire; -- formerly much used, esp. in the
... hammers of gun locks.
... 3. Anything extremely hard, unimpressible, and unyielding, like flint. “A
... heart of flint.” Spenser.

Jesus had His face set like a flint towards His purpose. Towards His purpose - the Father's will - He was unyielding with a dogged determination, unshakeable, tenacious, He did not give way to pressure or persuasion.

He carried out His purpose by walking boldly in confidence in His Father. Face set like flint not to be dissuaded from His calling --
to endure the cross.

For He knew the Lord would help Him.

***
From the above definition it's also interesting to note that when the flint is struck -- a spark or fire appears.

***
From the bible look what happens when flint is struck:

Deuteronomy 8:15
Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint?

Psalm 114:7-8
Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Exodus 17:6
"Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink."

John 19:34
one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

1 John 5:6-8
This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify:
the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

1 Corinthians 10:4
and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ.

***
Fire and water come forth when flint is struck.

Is it a coincidence that these are symbols for the Holy Spirit? : )

His face was set like flint
He the rock was struck
Blood and water gushed forth
The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth (fire & water)
The people may drink from the spiritual rock of Christ
Come, come and drink!

Because His face was set like flint ....

***
Revelation 22:17
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
