I am reading a book titled "Saint Philomena: Powerful With God"

it was written in 1952 and was reprinted in the 1980's
the edition I got was a reprint

this little saint had such a heroic life and now she has brought so many graces to people
the number of miracles connected with her relics is truly staggering

she was martyred by the Pagan Roman Empire, but her bones were not found until 1802
after her bones were found, there were just so many healings and miracles
please read more about her :)

Why was it removed?

many Italian saints were removed from the Calendar
it was meant to more fully reflect the universal nature of the Church both in diversity of historical periods and locations

for example, St. Valentine was also removed

because of lack of historical evidence for St. Philomena, she was never popular with some of the more scholarly folk :(
so there was probably an internal push to have her removed
the poor little Saint can not escape persecution even in death :(
