Sad films/songs..

Do you like watching sad films and/or listening to sad music?

If so, why? Are you more drawn to sad art than happier art?

some music can be beautiful and the next day be sad based on one's mood. I like music with thought provoking and often dark lyrics such as heavy metal. I relate to it. I cannot relate to happy music about love and peace and such as they are almost non existent in my life...

Oddly enough, this is my favorite sad(ish) song. I've had to walk away from a lot of people over the years, some I didn't want to leave but they left me no choice.

I'll listen to sad music if it's something I can relate to.
When it comes to sad films / programs, I avoid those.
If it's something that I wouldn't want to have to experience
in real life, I don't watch it as 'entertainment'.

I avoid them because I have had too much sadness in my life and I try to avoid triggers that will slow me down from living. I don't usually need help to cry....but occasionally, if I am full of tears that need to fall, I will listen to music that will help them flow.

Yeah that makes up 9/10 of my movie and music collection. Sad stuff has more gravitas, my creativity is more inspired by that than upbeat stuff.

Hmm..

I hate upbeat/happy stuff too, although I'd say the majority of my music is angry sounding. Black metal and the like. Although a combination of anger and sadness is good as well.

I'll listen to some metal when I work out. Most of the time I listen to soundtracks from composers like Thomas Newman or James Newton Howard, I listen to that and get ideas for screenplays and stuff.

Am I the only one who likes happy music about how life can be great...and movies with happy endings? Life is too full of tragedy. I don't need to fill my entertainment hours with "fake" tragedy or stories telling how much worse life can get. To me that is a ticket straight into depression.

I dislike the idea that any "serious art" has to be sad
you see that mindset with movies sometimes

you can have beautiful movies that are uplifting and inspirational

I do like some sad movies and songs

Mad World by Gary Jules is a sad song I really like

the movie Pi might be counted as a sad movie

when I am depressed I try and stay away from that kind of stuff because it makes me too sad
