Forgive me if you all have been belabored with this question or one's simliar to it. I have never really given the creation story much thought. I have never sat down and chewed it up like I have the gospels and the epistles. I read greek but never bothered with Hebrew. I have cared more about understanding Jesus and how to live a christian life. So please don't rebuke me like my friends from Bible college have already done. So I here is my question:

In Genesis 1 it says this:
Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind"; and it was so. God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, " Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so. God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Then it says this in Genesis 2:
Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

So in Genesis one it says that God created man and woman on the same day the sixth day. In Genesis 2 it says that God created man then he man named all the animals and no situable mate was found then God makes woman out of man. Now in the view of the 6 literal day creation how can all this take place in one day or am I missing something or not understanding something or is there something in the Hebrew that I don't know. So please help me out.

Thanks.

Gen 1 could be just a general overview of the Creation event, whereas Gen 2 gets into the specifics of the woman's creation.

There is also a tradition that the woman that God created originally in Gen 1 was named Lillith. She wouldn't stay with Adam and left the garden on her own account. The Alphabet of Ben-Sira
