Hello everyone.

I was curious about a couple of things in Genesis 19:26 ("But Lot’s wife behind him looked back, and she became a pillar of salt."). Why was Lot's wife turned to a pillar of salt? Is there a significance to a pillar of salt?

Thank you in advance for your explanations.

Thank you in advance for your explanations.
Sodom and Gomorrah are metaphors for the world and all its lusts. When God gave Lot and his wife an opportunity to turn their backs on the world (which was due for severe judgment) Lot's wife looked back (wistfully one can imagine, longing for the pleasures that she was leaving behind). Which meant that she loved the world more than God. Hence her judgment. As to the significance of salt, Christ said that if the salt had lost its savor, it was fit for the dunghill ( a metaphor for spirituality vs carnality).
