Are you surprised?

A Christian today is not one that belongs to God.

They're "followers" of something but it's not Jesus!

I'd say that people aren't Christians if they aren't followers of Christ ;)

Btw...Welcome to The Ancient Way and Christian Forums!

I hope that the prophecy of your Saint is fulfilled and Constantinople is restored to Christian hands.
I hope so too.

Abomination of desolation standing in the holy place

It certainly is, at least in a way. I'm not saying it is THE abomination of desolation or THE holy place, but it fits the general description, I think. Certainly sad ...

I thought of a stupid question when I was looking at the photos in the link. I've seen that image of Christ's icon in Hagia Sophia so many times. It is my most favorite icon. I have a copy at home.

But I got to thinking about them having been plastered over and partially revealed during the last century. When I look at my icon, those areas that appear as missing - I had thought it was damage to the icon and those parts were missing. Is it just plaster not removed, and the whole icon is still there (along with others not uncovered)? Just hidden from us?

Does anyone know for sure???

I'm pretty sure that parts of the mosaics are missing.

Ah well. Thank you. That's what I had always thought, but to think there could be more of the image there was something.

I would so have loved to see Hagia Sophia in it's original form, and hear the Liturgy there.

I can understand how it resulted in conversion. Glory to God!

That is so sad. My father's family on his mothers' side, originate from Asia Minor (Smyrna (now Izmir in Turkey) rather than Constantinople. My grandmother escaped as a child from the great fire of Smyrna in 1922, managing to get on a boat to the island of Chios where my father was born.
