Perhaps what original sin is referring to is that with the fall of Adam, all people will eventually sin. That doesn't mean that necessarily would one say that a newborn is sinful or has sin, but it would rather mean that given time, as this tad begins to be aware and grows, it will then sin or harbor sinful thoughts, and that all of mankind is subject to that when given enough time from birth.

The original sin was walking away, away from the presence of their Creator, questioning their status, trying out "something better." Because of that those living thereafter had to perish without God, or be redeemed by Him. He called out those who became known as Hebrews. He offered redemption through them for the whole of humankind. Over and over they rejected His offer. Ultimately, He came to the Hebrew folk in the Person of Jesus, their promised Messiah. They rejected Him. God then took the message of salvation by Grace through Faith to Gentile and Jew alike, based upon Jesus assuming the penalty for original sin. Jesus said, on the Cross, TETELESTAI!! Paid in Full!!!
