OBOB Statement of Purpose

We reject Satan and all of his works and empty promises. We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died and was buried, rose from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the Father We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

The above are our Baptismal promises that we renew every year at the Easter Vigil. As we say at Baptism and at renewal. This is our Faith, this is the Faith of the Church.

We also accept as true that Mary is truly the Mother of God and require all visitors of goodwill to treat with respect all that the Catholic Church teaches as dogma concerning that issue as well as all other proclaimed dogma. You need not agree but we ask that you, in the spirit of the site wide rules, act respectfully toward those beliefs and those who hold them while in OBOB.

OBOB is a forum for those Catholics who are in communion with the Holy See in Rome. This communion consists of the Western Church (Latin Rite) as well as approximately two dozen Eastern Catholic Churches, following various Eastern Rites, in union with the Bishop of Rome and who assent to all that the Church teaches as necessary and undeniably true through the Magisterium. The Magisterium, requiring assent, is defined as:
  • The Pope Ex cathedra
  • The Pope and Bishops from a council
  • The Bishops of the world, though dispersed proclaiming in union with the Pope.
The beliefs of the Catholic Church are found in the three primary Creeds of the ancient and Apostolic Church: Apostle's and Nicene Creed: Catechism of the Catholic Church - Credo Chart, and The Athanasian Creed. A fuller explanation of Catholic teachings can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Picayune, MS - Faith - Catechism of the Catholic Church

OBOB welcomes non-Catholic guests who wish to fellowship or ask respectful questions.

Definition of a Fellowship Post

It is not:

It is not debate.
It is not apologetics.
It is not answering questions related to the beliefs of the group.
It is not teaching in any way on any issue

It is:
Essentially Fellowship is defined as a discussion of topics of association, of companionship - i.e. discussions of things like friends, family, work..... these are fellowship posts. And posts that genuinely offer friendship would certainly be described as fellowship.

Remember that the beliefs of a group can be wide. You may think a social issue is not part of their beliefs but it may, to them, be inseparable and integral to their beliefs.

Homosexuality and Same Sex Marriage:

The OBOB forum allows homosexuality and same sex marriage to be discussed, without promotion*, in it's main forum and sub forums. The Catechism of the Catholic Church documents the Catholic Churches position on homosexuality:

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, 141tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

*Promotion is defined as encouragement of the progress, growth, or acceptance of something including advertising and publicity.

House Rules
All posts within this faith community must adhere to the site wide rules found here (Community Rules). In addition, if you are not a member of this faith group, you may not debate issues that are Dogma or Authoritatively taught by the Magisterium or teach against Catholic theology. You may post in fellowship. Fellowship posts can also include statements that are in alignment with beliefs of the given denomination, even by non-members. They cannot include debate or non-beliefs.

Active promotion of views contrary to the established teachings of this group (which includes Sedevacantism and the beliefs of the Society of St. Pius X) will be considered off topic. Sedevacantism and Society of St. Pius X beliefs and contrary established orthodox teachings may be discussed in Christian History or discussed and debated in Denominational Specific Theology.

The office the Papacy will always be respected. As far as the person holding the office even when we disagree on matters of Prudential judgement there will be no flaming, name calling, or implications that he is not the Pope.

If a thread is marked Catholic only only Catholics may participate in it.
