I think the common theme here is Obama receiving wards he hasn't actually earned.

Let's face it, this particular awars could probably be failry accurately re-named as the "Nobel Prize for Not Being George W Bush."

It's true that George W. Bush was an easy act to follow.

He could make almost any successor look good, even Sarah Palin (well, that's probably a stretch.)

While it might have been unusual that Obama was nominated right around his Inauguration Day, the committee that awarded him the prize took into consideration, I'm sure, his entire 8 months as President so far.

Honestly, really have to wonder just what that committe thought they were doing--werre they trying to embarass Obama or what?
The late President Reagan turned this country around and won the "cold war" and was never considered. The Pope, the leader of billions of Catholics, was instrumental in freeing Eastern Europe. No award. British Prime Minister Thacher was "iron willed" and a great leader of freedom. No award. All will agree that Gandhi was a man of peace, yet he too went without. And there's more who were amptly qualified by their deeds and yet nothing, zip, nada. Obama reads a couple speeches and is elected president just twelve days when his name is put in the running and voila--even though there are no accomplishments--the Nobel Peace Prize. Tend to agree with Lech Walensa (Polish labor leader)--it was premature. More time was needed.

I use to think the Nobel Peace Prize was prestigious and important. But after this, won't be able to fool me again. A shame.

Obama appeared genuinely embarrassed in his acceptance speech.

They turned it int a beauty contest. He hasn't accomplished much yet, but he sure looks good in his non-accomplishments.

I really hope he does accomplish soemthing in the way of peace. It is too early for that though, and it certainly was ridiculously too early two weeks after his inauguration when he got nominated to the affair.

The Alfred E Newmann award is more meaningful than the Nobel Peace Prize has become.

Pure silliness.

The Nobel Prize is given by the Noble Committee, the the Norwegian Parliament.

The above statement makes you either ignorant or a just another delude fox new watcher.

The Commitee sir, is designated by the Parliament, of 4 out 5 are members or the socialdemocrat/green coalition.

I stand for the fact that Nobels in Peace, Economy and Literature have been a travesty for at least 30 years, sometimes the got the obvious guy but sometimes they move their socialdemocrat green agenda on purpose. Like this one.

And BTW. I do not have Fox, I do not live in the US, Im not American, Im not even white, so do not play those cards on me.

As long as you come out against the a leftist agenda—even if it is an particularly anti-communist vantage point as seems to be your own personal perspective— you will pretty well be put in the same one-sized fits all box.

IF Obama accomplished world peace, can he bring the troops home from Afghan now?
Just wondering.

AMDG - the ppl you named will get their rewards in Heaven. Getting awards on earth reduces or removes rewards in Heaven if you get your thanks on earth.

For some reason or other, I get regular e-mails from the President.

Here is what he wrote about receiving the Nobel Prize:

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

Yep, I think the left, who is manily marxist in the Third World with the help of the social democrats, US social liberals and liberation theologes has in the end deepened the misery in the Third World.
I hate how US Democrats and Hollywood limousine liberals pander to people like Castro and Chavez. (See Obama on Honduras for example).

And BTW, Im not so disgusted off at Obama winning the price, I'm disgusted at the way the Nobel Commitee acts. I do find it the product of the condecending racism that is behind Affirmative Action, I bet that has he been white would have to wait some years. I'm Brown skinned, I do not want others to make me sit in the back of the bus due to my skin color, I do not want people to sit me in the front either due to my skin color. I just want people to treat me like equal.

And while the price is a embarrasment to Obama (but not a big one, he could have declined and did not), is more a embarrasment to the Nobel Commitee and the Norwegian Parliament.

Now people will be looking at how the Nobels are selected and that is a good thing. The process is grossly untrasparent.

At least Obama recognises he did nothing to expect it.
His every paragraph shows it is thru his oral speeches and not his actions that is presumably the cause.

Eh, i dont care. To be honest - i seldom pay attention to who gets them.
Altho i was surprised Reagan and Gandi didnt for their action, and not just a 'call' to action, either.

Peace

My point exactly. If Obama had followed on from a compotent, well liked, high achieving president, hadn't inherited long, drawn out wars (unpopular ones anyway), if the GFC had never happened and America was well thought of throughout the world, I seriously doubt that he would be receiving such high accolades. His efforts only look so "heroic" (I use that term loosely) when compared to George W.'s, not because they are particularly noteworthy in and of themselves.

FOR THE RECORD, according to Wikipedia this is the Nobel Commite and their political affiliation.

Norwegian Nobel Committeee Members, from Wiki:

* Thorbjørn Jagland (chair, born 1950), member of Parliament, President of the Storting and former cabinet minister for the Labour Party. Member and chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2009.
* Kaci Kullmann Five (deputy chair, born 1951), former member of Parliament and cabinet minister for the Conservative Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2003, deputy chair since 2009.
* Sissel Rønbeck (born 1950), deputy director, Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren), former member of parliament and cabinet minister for the Labour Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 1994.
* Inger-Marie Ytterhorn (born 1941), former member of Parliament for the Progress Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2000.
* Ågot Valle (born 1945), member of parliament for the Socialist Left Party. Member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee since 2009.

There is only one token Conservative there, the rest are leftists. Social Democrats, Marxists and Greens.

I put this separate. This is the people that made the Nobel Peace Prize is like a gold medal for lefties.

This is the funniest comment I have read so far:

"Upon reflection, I think all the mockery will cease when Barack Obama walks across the Atlantic Ocean to accept His prize."

But this is also funny:

"In early November, just weeks after the committee awarded the Peace Prize to the president, the Vatican likewise cast aside tradition and canonized Obama in a brief but moving ceremony. It was true, Pope Benedict admitted, that sainthood historically had applied only to the deceased - and then only to those who led exemplary lives of heroic virtue and sanctity, followed by several miracles through the saint's heavenly intercession. For that matter, it was also generally expected that the person embrace the fundamental tenets of the Catholic Church.

But the pope waved aside all such hurdles in Obama's case, explaining that the president's "entire life has been a miraculous journey" and that the pope himself had experienced the president's holiness during their meeting in July.

"Our critics say we're too hidebound," Benedict exulted, "but not after this."

Obama was certainly gracious and well-spoken in his reaction. It does not reflect poorly on him so much as it does on those that are pandering with such accolades.

His every paragraph shows it is thru his oral speeches and not his actions that is presumably the cause.
Without any achievement, it is apparent that the committee is not taking him seriously. One might think that he takes himself seriously enough to actually hope that his presidency will lead to some worthy achievments worthy of such accolades.
Clearly, the Nobel committee does not take him seriously enough to think that what he achieves is a priority.

Eh, i dont care. To be honest - i seldom pay attention to who gets them.
In science, they are still pretty heady stuff. There is a little more attemtp in objectivity in the hard sciences still.

Altho i was surprised Reagan and Gandi didnt for their action, and not just a 'call' to action, either.
I would have been surprised if Reagan would have been given one, given that he was in no way oriented to the left.
(I agree with In The Clouds. This is mainly about th eleft giving their own a pat on the back).
Ghandi was before my time. His stature as a pacifist who actually made a difference certainly has grown over time though.

Maybe they know better then you think.

Reagan didn't "win" the cold war any more than Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Ford or Carter did. They were all presidents when the cold war was begin waged.

And

ftr

Most people mark the fall of the Berlin Wall as the end of the cold war

and the Berlin Wall came down during the first Bush administration.

You need to stop getting your facts from Fox News.

President Obama wins the peace prize. Do you think that he really deserves it in light of what he was done to promote abortion ?

Nope, he does not deserve it. He has caused the unborn such violence that to give him a peace prize would be a total contradiction.

BWHAHAhahaha ^_^ TY for you post! Lolololo!! I look forward to Obama's walk on water. ^_^

I was stunned and disgusted with Yassir Arafat, a terrorist. Since then the Peace Prize is a bunch of bull scat to me. ^_^
Much more has been pointed out here in this thread.

It's interesting seeing how right wing media hosts are falling all over themselves to discredit the Nobel Peace Prize because it was given to someone they disapprove of.

But it is a bad year for Obama haters--he's bagged a degree from Notre Dame and a Nobel Peace Prize so far.

Mercy! I don't hate him. I do look forward to see what his accomplishments are. And his two baggies, are to me without substance. But so far, a good orator, charismatic, looks good, beautiful wife and nice looking kids great deep mellow voice... I wait for more substance. (Wish I knew what right or left means. Should go google huh.)
