Christianese noun. (kris’chun-nēz) 1. A language or style of speaking that is understood only by Christians. 2. Biblical terms or references Christians use that make a lot of sense to them but not to anyone else.

A couple of years ago I opened a thread on “Christianese” (and I think there was a more recent one). My thread was closed because it became a debate issue. So I am opening this one in the No-Debate forum.

Today, I picked up a little booklet entitled “No More Christianese” by Doug Addison. It is a glossary of Christinese with suggestions for everyday synonyms more easily understood by people who are not familiar with our jargon. It was written to help Christians better communicate with unchurched friends without using our insider language.

Here are a few from the book:
Anointed. (Specially talented or gifted)
Blessing. (Good thing)
Body of Christ. (Church)
Deliverance. (Removing obstacles)
Intercession. (Prayer for others)
Justification. (Changed life because of Jesus’ death)
Ministry. (Some work you have chosen to help others)
Quickend. (Something just popped into my head)
Repentant heart. (Being really sorry and wanting to change)
Stronghold. (Unseen obstacle blocking you from being your best)
Vestibule. (Lobby)
Washed in the blood. (Forgiven)
Wanna add a few of your own?

since you've chosen to put this in a no debate format, i will simply agree to heartily disagree with the premise of your post.

LOL, maybe we first need a debate thread on what words constitutes christianese?

Bondage to sin (a strong bad habit)

Fellowship. - Does anyone use this word outside a church/church people setting?
Fishined work of Christ.- overused with little explination.
Witness/witnessing.
Testimony - a leftover word from a couple of centuries ago.
