KATHMANDU, Oct. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- The anti-government guerrillas have abducted more than 500 teachers and students from various schools in remote areas in eastern Nepal's Panchthar district over the past few days, a police office said in a statement on Monday.

The guerrillas abducted these teachers and students from Panchthar district, some 300 km east of Kathmandu, the local police office said.

The teachers were forcibly taken away to make them participate in a district-level political training campaign launched by the guerrillas, the statement said.

Literally, Communists in hte midst of revolution are kidnapping people for indoctrination, a classic Maoist tradition. People are sceptical that there are still a Red threat in the world, but there really is -- Nepal could fall to the collectivist mistakes on this one, and repeat a big historical problem.

Sic the Ghurkas on them. Many of them (and other Buddhists) wanted to keep fighting the People's Liberation Army when the Dalai Lama decided to shift from armed resistence to non-violence.

Even though the Dalia Lama wants to use peace and non-violence, it ain't a Christian religion you know.
