1. Saying Goodbye to a Great Staffer: Edial
Please help me wish Edial a wonderful blessed journey as he steps down from CF staff.
His footprint on our ministry will always remain but his presence will be greatly missed. I'm sure he will come around as a member to all his favorite forums but for now please join me at his profile page to wish him many thanks for the years of service he has brought to us all.
All of us on CF staff will miss him dearly!!

"It's a chicken and egg question," said Dr Terry Kee of the University of Leeds, who led the research. "Scientists are in disagreement over what came first -- replication, or metabolism. But there is a third part to the equation -- and that is energy"

Take a two-pronged mystery and add a third mysterious prong - now we're really getting nowhere. Good job, science! :p

I bet he read it, he only commented on the first part though. It is a very remarkable article and the part about energy is very interesting. So maybe this is what he ment. The sarcastic part of his post though I sadly echo. I don't believe scientists can create life.

I think he's making a wry parody of the Creationists who would jump on quotes like that and say "See! Sceince dont work!"

I think we replicated first, then acquired metabolism.

    Why not?

I would assume, that creating life is a god only task.

That is probably the idea. And then, when artificial life is a reality, they will say, well, making matter and physical law is a god-only task.

I wouldn't even give em Making Matter, as I've no doubt that we'll eventually find a way to convert Energy to Matter.
We can already to it in the opposite direction, though it's not very safe.

We can go both ways, actually, though not on any large scale. Sadly, Star Trek replicators are still a way away...
