My priest told me a couple weeks ago that our mutual friend and pastor at my old C&MA church had invited him to speak on the 17th. I guess they're doing a "series" (or whatever you want to call it) where the pastors introduce the congregation to different "branches" of the "family tree" of Christianity.

Well, the podcast was posted on iTunes so I thought I'd share. The intro is by the associate pastor (our aforementioned mutual friend) and I kind of jerked when he implied we're all the "one holy, catholic and apostolic church"... I'm looking forward to asking my priest about the experience in general but also if he has any thoughts about what the pastor said in the introduction.

Here's a link to the podcast, kind of generic information that's probably old news for most of you guys here, but at any rate it's an opportunity to hear Fr. Michael which probably won't happen often since my mission parish doesn't have those resources at it's own disposal.

cool, thanks for this!

No prob bro, I have to admit it was kind of satisfying to hear some of the stuff he was saying. My old church has had a very "colorful" (to put it nicely) history, especially in the last eight years or so. They got caught up in all of the charismatic madness and so to have my priest say "I'm going to shock you with this..." and talk about Tradition was awesome.

What does C&MA stand for?

Christian & Missionary Alliance, it's an evangelical denomination that I was raised in. Heavy emphasis on missions, though my local church dialed that back and became more like the charismatics and Pentecostals, much to my chagrin. No matter though, Orthodoxy is where it's at.

That's really neat, BF. I'll have to take a listen to it when I get the chance. :)

Thanks, Dot!

I imagine it wouldn't be at all edifying for an Orthodox Christian because what Fr. Michael talks about seems to be Orthodoxy 101, but I guess the more interesting thing is that he's speaking to a congregation of Evangelicals about Orthodoxy 101. :p

I'm kind of curious if I'll be seeing anybody I know from my old church at any of the services at my parish in the near-future.

Oh, I like Orthodoxy 101 stuff. :) You never stop learning! Even the simple, beginner's stuff!  Yes, it does add to the interest with whom Fr. Michael is speaking. :D

that's true. when I am home, I still go do Inquirer's classes or Orthodoxy 101 stuff, and I always learn something when I am there.
