• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am constantly in a state of moderate discomfort. Not excruciating pain, but either my back, or my joints, or my neck, or some other little thing will ache. I don't wish to resort to pills or worse, alcohol, to deal with it.

What do you suggest?

  • Make sure you are hydrated.
  • Strive for regularity in the sense of yesterday's meals. Both if not practice accelerate pain by being toxic.
  • I use 1 1/2 times fish oil recommended after almost 2 weeks felt a decrease in pain about 2 points.
  • Walk if you can everyday. Though in pain, if I don't walk my pain increases by 3 to 4 points. And I get newer pains, that disappear when I start walking again.
  • Emu oil, < helps within an hour, Magnesium Gel (I make my own, alot cheaper) < also a relaxant, Frankincense essential oil helps joints.
  • Turmeric helps but I do take an extra pill than recommended.
  • I've heard of noni juice, mangosteen juice, frankincense pills, just starting those.
  • Here are notes from WEB MD.
    Back and Joint Discomfort

Turmeric is a root that’s part of the ginger family. It curbs inflammation, says Eva Selhub, MD, a clinical associate at Massachusetts General Hospital and author of Your Health Destiny.

You can cook with this dark yellow spice or make tea with it. Or take it in capsule form up to 1-2 grams per day.

Devil’s claw root is an herb that may ease low back pain and common arthritis discomfort. You can take enough to get 30-100 milligrams of the active compound, harpagoside, per day. If you have a sensitive stomach, stick with a low dose or you might get a mild stomachache.

Capsicum/capsaicin comes from chili peppers. A skin cream with 0.25%-0.75% capsaicin may soothe your back pain. Apply it directly to the area that hurts. Supplement pills may also help with diarrhea and cramps.

Comfrey. If you have lower or upper back pain, you could try a skin cream made with comfrey extract. Use it three times a day. Comfrey can harm your liver if you take it by mouth, so don’t drink comfrey tea.

Glucosamine may help with joint pain. Chondroitin, which is often sold with glucosamine, may ease pain and give you better joint movement. They are part of what makes up the cartilage in your body.

Many people who take glucosamine and chondroitin combine it with aspirin or other treatments. So it’s hard to say which is effective.

Give it time. It may take up to 4 months to see an improvement.

Sorry to hear this, Simon.
I sympathize because I had a close relative with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.
I recommend long, quite hot baths to loosen the muscles and joints, and also recommend getting checked for Lyme disease because it's common and primarily causes joint aches but the hospitals often don't consider it.

Sorry you are having pain Simon.
You know, it amazes me just how many folks have chronic pain! So many many people. It's like an epidemic or something. You have gotten some good advice here so far. There are just so darn many causes of this that you need to be sure and check with a doctor and see if they can find out what might be causing some or most of your pain. Could be a combination of things. Some of it sounds like fibromyalgia. So check with the doc.
And hang around here if you like. We try to help each other as much as we can. Blessings to you.
