Meaning/translation of Leviticus 21 9.

According to the King James bible online, Leviticus 21 9 is translated as, "And the daughter of any Priest, if she profane her self by playing the harlot, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire."

Does "playing the harlot" refer to fornication itself, promiscuity, or prostitution? Some Bible verses translate it as fornication, others say it's prostitution, but that doesnt mean that their translation is true and accurate.

I have researched several examples of how both old and new testament verses have different meanings under different translations. So different translations of Leviticus 21 9 have different meanings.

I think most translation go by harlot, harlot or prostitute. Studylight.org had this view of the scripture.

"Leviticus 21:9 refers to the Canaanite practice of cultic prostitution in which a religious purpose (pagan) was thought to be served by such immorality."[10] So far was God from allowing anything like that in Israel, that He ordered execution and the burning of any daughter of a priest involved in such a thing. So opposed was Israel to all such things that their language does not even have a word for "priestess."[11]

So opposed was Israel to all such things that their language does not even have a word for "priestess."[11]

So was that verse referring to prostitution in general, or just cultic pagan prostitution? Nothing in the context refers to Caananite rituals. For example, some people say that Leviticus 20 13 doesnt refer to homosexuality in general, but homosexuality that takes place as a part of pagan rituals-even though nothing in the context mentions it.

I read Leviticus 21 just now, and it didnt say anything about the priests daughter being stoned to death. Which verse are you talking about?

Why are you saying she would be stoned to death, if the passage says she was burned?

or search yourself in the Scriptures where it is written , before Yahushua, when someone would be stoned to death.

i.e. a comparison , a seemingly less severe sin than being a harlot or a prostitute or perversion, was punishable according to the law, by stoning.

What crime exactly is Leviticus 21 9 talking about? Is it talking about prostitution or fornication? Different bible versions have different translations, and I cant tell which one is true or not.

Yhvh forbids both, as well as man sleeping with man like a woman, and woman sleeping with woman like a man, just like having sex with animals, and other perversions listed throughout Torah.

So, I expect you'd find, both would be punished by death, both are in line with Scripture/Torah, and both are true, (subject to revelation otherwise in that specific verse)
and people will argue about the details until they're blue in the face.

Maybe, if you can find an Israelite believer well versed in Hebrew to whom Yhvh has revealed the Truth,
they could tell you more accurately.

For instance, the Torah keepers in ethiopia who were on national or international televion recently probably know, but I don't know how to get in touch with them.

IF YHVH considers it important and timely to know more, He will reveal it.
