don't believe this is an accurate translation but perhaps I'm not getting it. I've read other English translations.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. – The Greek word for temptation here is unlike our definition of temptation. It’s root meaning is testing or proving. This was Jesus’ prayer when his time of trial came in the garden. (Matthew 26:42-45,James 1:2-3,13).

What's your take?

It is an accurate translation. God uses trials to test us but we shouldn't go seeking these trials.
It is meant to express a wish that God does not lead us into trials.

I just recently discovered in my readings that the word temptation in the Bible generally does not mean what we think it means. The historically accurate meaning is "trial", like Truthseeker1971 was saying. Interesting..
