I said this:
"Nope. Salvation is the gift. Just as Rom 6:23 teaches that eternal life is the gift of God."
Sorry, but the Greek does not back you up. Keep your head in the sand if you want.
Can you back up your own claim?

If Rom 6:23 doesn't teach that eternal life is a gift of God, then what does the Greek actually say?

Don't just throw out opinions. If there is evidence to support your view, it helps the discussion by sharing it.

Sorry, but only God is eternal. If one becomes cut-off from God...
Then it's clear that the phrase "eternal life" doesn't mean what it says to you. OK.

If only God is eternal, just how long do you assume you'll exist in eternity? A few years, or a few millennia?

Funny. I simply quote what the apostle John says and then you quote John alleging that John contradicts John.
I asked a question. Then I quoted what John wrote about those who SAY they have no sin; they are liars and the truth is not in them.

As to what he wrote in 3:9 and 5:18, doesn't contradict what he wrote in 1:8.

Your argument is not with me but with the apostle John.
I have no argument with John. I do take issue with anyone who misunderstands 1 John 3:9 and 5:18.

Unlike the Neo-Circumcision, those who are born of God are not subject to fear of condemnation. Those who are sons of God have eternal security.

Why do you keep using the term 'Neo-Circumcision'? Have you not read the following -

Deuteronomy 10:16
Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

Deuteronomy 30:6
And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

Jeremiah 4:4
Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

Circumcision of the heart is nothing new! In fact, it is a part of the law of Moses!

Everything is a gift from God.
That's a nice sentiment, but is there any Scripture that actually backs that up?

The question is, how to we attain eternal life?
The answer is throughout the gospel of John.
3:15,16, 5:24, 6:40, 47, 10:28 (with 10:9 being the context for who His sheep are), 1 Tim 1:16

Phil 3
. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. 12Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.16Only let us hold true to what we have attained.
Great passage, but since the term "eternal life" doesn't occur anywhere here, how does it answer your question?

The verses I provided DO have the term "eternal life" in them.

Do you consider the air you breathe as a gift from God? Do you consider your sight, hearing, and speech as a gift from God? Did you have to do anything to receive these things from God? What did you pay to receive your sight?

This is an issue where true believers can be found on both sides.

I'm Southern Baptist, so I affirm eternal security. However, I acknowledge verse that seem to teach one can lose their salvation and I plan to read an exegetical Bible study on this area.

There are Christians who believe in conditional security. That is, your salvation is eternally secure as long as you believe. However, they believe a person can willing surrender their salvation as well.

The only real issue I have with this view is that the Scriptures seem to teach that if you fall away, there is no coming back.

If a believer backslides into sin only, they can be forgiven. This is evident by both the "Parable of the Prodigal Son" and by James 5:19-20
(cf. 1 John 2:1, 1 John 1:9).

However, if a believer denies Jesus as their Savior after having the Holy Spirit and the gifts thereof, there is no coming back to the faith
(See Hebrews 6).

Now what if someone doesn't explicitly deny Jesus, but decides they want to keep an open mind and believe that Jesus may be God, but don't affirm or deny it?

Not sure what you are talking about. Jesus Christ is God (i.e. Second person of the Godhead) (John 1:1-2) (1 John 5:7).

He that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come into the flesh is anti-Christ (1 John 4:3).

What I asked, and you failed to provide, is ANY evidence from Scripture of what is described as gifts of God other than:
1. salvation Eph 2:8
2. eternal life Rom 6:23
3. indwelling Holy Spirit Acts 10:45
4. spiritual gifts Rom 1:11

Yep. Keep studying because we must acknowledge that the Bible is not internally contradicted.

There are Christians who believe in conditional security. That is, your salvation is eternally secure as long as you believe. However, they believe a person can willing surrender their salvation as well.
But they have zero support from Scripture for such a belief.

Is your sight a gift from God? It's an easy question. Why do you fail to answer?

I told you clearly what the Bible describes as gifts of God. Why do you ignore that?

And why can't you provide any Scriptural evidence for your question?

btw, I personally know believers who have lost their sight. I guess you'd use that example of God's gifts that are not irrevocable. Which would be total nonsense.

The Bible does NOT describe physical sight as being a gift of God. I suggest it would be more productive to study Scripture about what are God's gifts, ALL of which are irrevocable.

Unless one can provide a verse that straight up SAYS that any gift of God can be revoked.

Paul SAID that God's gifts are irrevocable. Where is the exception? No where to be found.

So, if there were any gifts of God that are revocable, it would be incumbent upon Paul to clearly state that when he wrote 11:29.

Everything we have is a gift from God. I can't believe you are truly denying this.

I went through a Deist phase but I did not want to reject Jesus, so I just told myself that He could be God.

It didn't last long at all before I felt guilty and repented.

Well, I am sorry to inform you, but your repentance was false, my friend.

Jesus said,

"I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that "I AM" [he], you shall die in your sins." (John 8:24).

The English word "he" does not appear in the Greek. So Jesus was saying that if you do not believe not that He is the "I AM" you will die in your sins.

In fact, when Jesus was talking with the Pharisees, they wanted to know how he could have been old enough to see Abraham.

Jesus replied,

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, ..... "I AM." (John 8:58).

Then when the Pharisees heard this, that is when they went ape crazy and wanted to kill him.

For the Pharisees considered this to be blasphemy and picked up stones to stone him. Why did they think it was blasphemy? Because in Exodus chapter 3, God declares Himself to be the great "I AM."

And God said unto Moses,
"I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you." (Exodus 3:14).

Also, Jesus is "God Almighty" because the Scriptures declare that He is "God" and that He is the "Almighty."

Here is a list of verses (Taken from an article) that tell us this.
(See #108 --113 for Jesus being called "God").
(See #45 for Jesus being called the "Almighty").

160 Reasons Jesus Christ is Almighty God

By Thomas Golda

Only because Jesus Christ is Almighty God do we have reassurance that He can save His elect from eternal damnation and eternal torment.

1. Jesus IS the visible image of the Invisible God - Colossians 1:15, II Corinthians 4:4...to see Jesus is to see the Invisible God - Mankind was created IN the image of God - Genesis 1:26...Jesus IS the image of God. To see Jesus is to see the Invisible God in the flesh.
2. Jesus was conceived by God - Luke 1:35, Matthew 1:20. Since Mary was his earthy mother, that makes Jesus fully human..since God was His physical Father, since Jesus did not have an earthy father, that makes Jesus fully God. He was fully man and fully God. The Great Godman.
3. To see Jesus' face is to see the glory of God - II Corinthians 4:6
4. Jesus "being in the form of God" makes Him God - Philippians 2:6
5. Jesus being the brightness of the Father's glory - Hebrews 1:3
6. Jesus is the exact image of the Father's Person - Hebrews 1:3
7. That is why to "see Jesus" is to "see the Father" - John 14:9, John 12:45
8. That is why Jesus said He and His Father are one - John 10:30

worshipped - Matthew 4:10..that means Jesus is God.

14. Heaven falls down before the Lamb - Revelation 5:8
15. Jesus Created ALL things - Colossians 1:16, Hebrews 1:2, John 1:3, Ephesians 3:9 ....God created all things - Acts 14:15, Isaiah

What do you think is meant by attaining resurrection from death?
It refers to being resurrected with a new body. And I suppose you're going to take that verse from Paul to argue that he was only wishing or hoping for it.

Everything we have is a gift from God. I can't believe you are truly denying this.
I've denied nothing, so stop with the dramatics.

The Bible is very specific about what are God's gifts. Paul noted 3 of them in Romans, and described another one in Ephesians. Acts 10 mentions another.

The problem for those who reject what Rom 11:29 clearly says is to find in that very same context a clear verse that indicates that eternal life wasn't included in 11:29.

And, so far, no one has done that. Because it can't be done.

When Paul wrote that the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable, he didn't indicate that only some are, or many are, or anything else.

Therefore, ALL of God's gifts, which we know from what Scripture specifically SAYS, are irrevocable.

It was Paul who specifically described justification and eternal life as gifts of God. So when he wrote 11:29, it should be obvious to everyone that he was including them.

It would have been reckless and irresponsible to not include those 2 specific gifts when he wrote 11:29 if that were true.
