Readers of the Old Testament might be excused if they feel let down when searching for good examples of ‘Jubilee.’ The word invokes images of joy and celebration and its practice begins against a backdrop of miraculous liberation, yet only Moses seems to make much of it. What happened? Did no-one want to go to the party?

The New Testament isn’t exactly replete with examples either. There is no apparent record of 49 or 50 year cycles and Christian commentators are about as vague as their Jewish counterparts on the subject. Perhaps it was a good idea, they suggest, that never really got off the ground; or if it did, the records got lost and the festival ceased somewhere along the line.

However, nothing in scripture is without significance. Just because it is not often mentioned does not mean we should ignore it. Besides, God remembered; He doesn’t forget his appointments! An interesting case in point happened during the reign of Hezekiah when the Jubilee Sabbath is discerned from the more common 7th year Sabbath because the land had to be fallowed two years in a row. God expected his people to trust him for their sustenance until planting and reaping the following year. To make matters difficult, the Jubilee arrived when Judah had been invaded by Assyria so, not only did the people have to believe God for food, but for deliverance as well. The invasion occurred in Hezekiah’s fourteenth year. By his fifteenth year forty-six fortified towns had fallen and Jerusalem was under siege. It was now a sabbatical year and God gave a sign to the king:
“This shall be the sign for you: this year eat what grows of itself, and in the second year what springs of the same. Then in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.” (2 Kings 19:29)
A ‘seven’ is indicated by the fact that sowing and reaping was not permitted on that year. A ‘forty-nine’ is indicated by the fact that no sowing and reaping was permitted on the next year either. God promised the people there would be enough fruit growing wild to feed them for two. (Leviticus 25:3-12) So the sign describes a forty-nine year Sabbath followed by a Jubilee. A miraculous salvation took place that year and Judah was saved from doom.

Then there was the Jubilee of 562 BC. The whole nation was captive in Babylon when a former king, Jehoiachin, who had been imprisoned thirty-seven years, was suddenly and inexplicably set free. (2 Kings 25:27-30) No one knows the reason why. Perhaps he repented since his reign had been a wicked one; we are not told. Babylonian tablets mention him – Yaukin (Jehoiachin) of Iahudu (Judah) – but again, no reason is given for his release. Amel-Marduk of Babylon would not have known or cared whether the year was a Jubilee. However God knew and the implication is that salvation is a gift, granted in spite of our sins.

No doubt these Kings were glad of their Jubilee deliverance's, but for us today they might be bigger signs than they were for them. It enables us to extrapolate from known dates a timeline following a strict Sabbatic path from one Jubilee to the next. The reason why it has not been done before is because ancient dates have not been as precise as we are now able to determine, hence the sequences running beneath the surface of the Bible have remained elusive. Not any more – the Jubilee timeline has now been charted.

I believe the following are the Sabbath years from the Exodus (1445 BC) until the 30th Jubilee which Jesus called the "the year of the Lords favor" (AD27, Luke 4:16-21) The dual date is a 49th/50th year indicating a Jubilee. The single dates are 7-year Sabbaths which occur in-between.

OK.. if I am seeing the dates correctly.. you are calculating the Jubilees by year of Jubilee + 50 years and next Jubilee on 51st year. The way I have always understood the counting of the Jubilees was that the first of the count towards the next Jubilee is the Jubilee.. so that it should be Jubilee + 49 years and the next year is the next Jubilee... which is also the first year count towards the next Jubilee.

Leviticus 25:10
And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof:it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

Leviticus 25:11
A jubile shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.

No, I think we are seeing it the same way. Here is the first cycle again. From the Exodus (1445 bc) to 1396 bc is 49 years. Then on the fiftieth year (1395 bc) is the Jubilee

1445 BC (The Exodus)

Notice how the fiftieth year coincides with the first year of the next sabbatic cycle. It’s a bit like saying that Sunday is the 8th day of the week as well as the 1st day of the following week.

One of the reasons why a workable timeline has eluded modern Bible students is because they have not understood how the 50th year slotted in. However, it needs to be remembered that the formula is part of an overall Sabbatical system so the fiftieth year must be part of the forty-nine, otherwise the Jubilee cycle would get out of phase with the Sabbath. Divide seven into fifty and see? Try seven into one hundred? It doesn’t work! The answer is really quite simple. The fiftieth year coincides with the first year of the next sabbatic cycle.

There is an example of this in Daniel chapter 9 which calculates ten Jubilee cycles as 490 years. If we were adding ‘fifty’s’ it would have come to 500.

I watched the video, I'm not buying the book.

I am wondering if the OP is saying that the THE YEAR OF JUBILEE has come and there will be no more? Seems the calculations ended in 26/27CE.

But Israel wasn't set free from oppression then, so does it start over again?

My understanding is that Jubile will be re-instated after the Jews return to the homeland. Once Jubile resumes, alien residents can become Jews providing they follow the written Torah, meaning that the Palestinians can continue to occupy the land as long as culturally they become Jewish, and the promise of Paradise can then be extended to all who come under the covenant.

This is why it is necessary that the Jews are returned, so that Jubile can begin again. It isn't an arbitrary prophesy, but a necessary prerequisite so that all G-d's children are given the opportunity for salvation.

"Rabbenu Tam agrees with Rashi as to the date of the destruction, but differs from him in asserting that the shemiṭṭah fell in the year of the destruction, which was the "closing year of the cycle." He fixes the shemiṭṭah at the time of his writing as the year 5012 of Creation (= 1251 C.E)"
It’s good to know that Rabbenu Tam also agrees with the chronology set forth in the opening post. 1251 CE is on the same 7-year grid as 26 CE and the other dates tabled. However the research done here has not drawn heavily on Rabbinic opinion. (except to quote from Zuckermann work) Otherwise it is a fresh approach.

The primary purpose of the OP is to establish the fact that Jesus of Nazareth began his ministry on the eve of the 30th Jubilee. In AD 26 he was speaking his first public message immediately following his baptism. What was his message? “The time is fulfilled!” He was referring to the very day in which he spoke; it was the actual year the sabbatic cycle finished. The Amplified Bible puts it this way: “The appointed period of time is fulfilled (completed), and the kingdom of God is at hand.” Paul put it this way: “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son.”

That was late AD 26. Then early in the following year (the 'fiftieth' year) he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up; and as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
It was now AD 27. He rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” The Jubilee had come!

The Jubilee calendar provides a powerful witness to the ministry of Messiah. We should not get sidetracked down the path to futuristic date predictions. So, I do not project the Jubilee cycle past the Cross and no, I don't believe that 2027 AD has any significance.

It is customary for Israel to only take alien residents in the year of Jubilee.

The fulfillments of prophecy are not arbitrary. They are necessary steps. It works like this:

1) The Jews must return to the homeland so that Jubilee can resume

2) Jubilee must resume so that alien residents can be accepted

3) Alien residents must be able to be accepted so that Gentiles can convert and receive a part in the promise of paradise.

Simchat Torah or Simḥath Torah (also Simkhes Toreh, Hebrew: שִׂמְחַת תורָה, lit., "Rejoicing with/of the Torah,") is a celebration marking the conclusion of the annual cycle of public Torah readings, and the beginning of a new cycle. Simchat Torah is a component of the Biblical Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret ("Eighth Day of Assembly"), which follows immediately after the festival of Sukkot in the month of Tishrei (mid-September to early October on the Gregorian calendar). Triple blessings that day, because Yeshua preached the Jubilee, celebrated the new cycle, and His ministry started.

Hi Visionary. Would you do a review of my book from a Messianic standpoint? The 'Readers edition' is quite inexpensive, and the link is here if you're interested.

Tradition has the role of mentioning which Biblical events happened during Jubilees and holidays, usually the Bible doesn't adress those things. There are revealed miracles, and there are miracles that are only discovered through study.

"Notice how the fiftieth year coincides with the first year of the next sabbatic cycle."

The historical Jewish way of counting it is such that two jubilee cycles equal 100 years (49 + 1 + 49 + 1).
