John 15 does not speak to salvation but is for those who have already been saved. It does not speak of losing a person’s salvation either but of producing fruit for God. The word fruit is mention 8 times in the chapter.[1] Jesus is speaking of bearing fruit for God. The way we bear fruit is not by way of the branches but the vine produce the fruit through the branches.[2] The vine was often the symbol for Israel.[3] This is important because when Jesus speak of the branches being cut away from him in John 15, he is speaking of Israel.[4] Israel who were God chosen people from the very start fell away from God time and time again and stop, if ever, producing fruit for God and they were cut away. Paul speaks of this with the original branches of the olive tree being cut away and the wild branches from a wild olive tree being graphed in Romans 11:17.[5] Jesus is not speaking of losing salvation but of Israel turning away from God. Jesus is speak of all who are saved He lives in them and them in Him and much fruit is produced. This is one way we know if a person is saved or not by this passage John 15. If God is producing fruit from them they have Jesus in their hearts, but if there is no fruit or bad fruit they are not in The True Vine. Jesus is the life, and also the protector, and the Gardner.[6] Jesus produces fruit from all His children. It can also be seen as remaining in Jesus is staying in the word of God. Jesus said the disciples had been clean by the word, so remaining also in God’s word helps us grow. People have used this passage to say a person can lose their salvation, but that view conflicts with John 6 which Jesus shows and says that none who The Father has given Him will be lost. Jesus says no one can snatch them from The Father’s hands.[7] In order to say this passage shows a person can loses salvation you must say Jesus contradicted Himself and we know God does not do that. We can rest assured our salvations is secure as Jesus said, if we are His children He will produce fruit from us.
