Mr. Bush finished a fiery riff about protecting the country as commander in chief — “I won’t be out here blowharding, talking a big game without backing it up,” he said — and was met with total silence.

“Please clap,” he said, sounding defeated.

Sadly, it might be more like the case of poor Thad Cochran who wasn't allowed to retire and fade into obscurity. His party demanded that he come out of retirement and fend off the TEA Party challenge for his Senate seat ... nobody else could. Poor Thad had no choice, having sold that out long before apparently.

The same may be true of poor Jeb. It's sad, really.
