Two islamic gunmen holding hostages in the centre of Sydney, opposite where I work. Seige has been going for a few hours.

Lord have mercy on the two young men and their hostages. May they have their eyes opened to the lies they have been fed and may their hostages be freed without harm.

Its been going for six hours with no communication and no demands.
Whoever they are, they've chosen the best location for maximum exposure. A large Lindt cafe opposite one of the main news broadcasters. The Reserve bank, two other large banks and the State Premier's department all close by on a large pedestrian mall.
Without God's merciful intervention I fear very much for the safety of the hostages.
There have been many young Muslim men who have been radicalised by charismatic extremists who have gone to Syria to join the fighting, only to find the reality of their situation to be far from what they imagined. Pray that these men holding the people hostage will also become disillusioned with what they have been led to believe and repent of their evil.

Although it was thought there were two men involved it turned out to be a lone gunman.
Unfortunately two of the hostages died along with the gunman who appears to have acted on his own.

One of the hostages died in an attempt to protect the others, I hear.

What a sad story, but the concern I have is the sentiment that drove the events.
