Gay activists are successfully getting laws passed in cities around the country that discriminate against Christians. The laws are called nondiscrimination laws by the LGBT activists pushing through one city council after another. So far, over 180 cities have passed these so-called nondiscrimination ordinances.

In essence the laws provide special protection to LGBT individuals while at the same time; they place huge restrictions on the religious rights of Christians. For instance, the San Antonio city council voted 8-3 to pass their ordinance that bans any form of discrimination based upon sexual orientation or gender identity. Their ban went so far as to forbid anyone who does not openly accept or support gay rights from conducting any business with the city. Violating the ordinance is a Class C misdemeanor that could result in a fine of up to $500 per day.

Replace "LGBT" with "African American". Do you still boil with outrage?

The title of the thread is rather misleading, and leads me to mistrust the original poster's integrity from the outset.

I cannot imagine ANY city restricting the right of a pastor to quote scripture.

If any cities ARE doing this, there would be obvious law suits under both freedom of speech and separation of church and state.

Additionally, I would also be surprised if the laws protecting LGBT from harassment actually "forbid anyone who does not openly accept or support gay rights from conducting any business with the city." Rather, I would surmise that these laws ban businesses from refusing service to any segment of the general public and ban other harassment.

Q1: is a church a "business" -- no. That is pretty well established. Churches are not licensed or regulated as businesses are, and as such pastors can presumably be as vile as they want in the safety of their churches.

Q2: is quoting scripture ever harassment? I can imagine situations in which quotations, taken out of context and used forcefully and hatefully could be considered harassment. If you go around shouting that people should be stoned, or whatever, (and you're not talking about recreational marijuana), then I can imagine circumstances in which that willful misuse of scripture could be construed as harassment. But perhaps when someone does something like this, we will find out how the courts feel about it.

But! What if we looked at it another way?

What would it be like if pastors went out of their way to offer love, compassion, and kindness? What if members of the congregation did the same? Maybe we should look to evangelical pastors such as Stan Mitchell of Gracepoints Evangelical for leadership on this issue.

Do you actually have the text of this ordinance? Because of all the things to not include in your news report, this seems like kind of a crucial one. The wording of such an ordinance is all the difference between a violation of people's rights and the protection thereof. This news report seems insanely hyperbolic, especially given that this sort of ordinance is so common.

While there is Good and Bad in our society we need to not take any contitutional rights from any person that is an united states citizen.

sometimes ordinances can be Good or Bad depending on the current times places and persons that may exploit power over the rights of others.

The first cited bill was passed in 2013 by San-Antonio and has yet to live up to it's doomsday predictions.

Full text here:

It includes disclaimers saying that it is not meant to force any advocacy of anything, and specifically exempts religious institutions.

I am a sinner saved by the blood of christ and so is any other person that obeys the gospel of Jesus Christ!

But to threaten arrest of preachers that use the word of God that convicts of of sin is something God will Deal with.

More than 2,500 homes damaged in Houston area floods

Capital Weather Gang
Record-breaking May rainfall in Texas and Oklahoma, by the numbers

the torrential May rains were deadly for the states, where at least 31 people have died in storms just since Memorial Day weekend, the Associated Press reports. At least 10 people remain missing. Weather.com’s Jonathan Erdman calculated that the National Weather Service offices across Oklahoma and Texas issued a combined total of 594 flash flood warnings in the month of May, which was 97 more than all of last year. At least three of those warnings have been flash flood emergencies, which are only issued in the most life-threatening flooding situations.

Old news. Don't you folks bother looking at blog dates and then check for follow-up reports? Nothing of the sort actually happened.

Ah, so one official makes an impotent threat, and your idea of God's justice is that he then wipes out the homes of 2,500 good Christians?
You said that not me... it would have been better to have more Grace and more Teaching of the word of God to convict all of us of our sin.
