Is hell not real and just a evolution of Gehenna (a pit outside Jurusalem) ?

It did not evolve from the idea of Gehenna, actually. Jewish belief in a Hell of sorts predated Jesus' day. And it did involve fiery punishment, as those in it were on the receiving end of God's retribution.

Jesus acknowledged such a place and expanded on it. He taught that it was real.

Read Erasing Hell by Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle sometime. Lots of other good information on Hell in there, and it is also written in such a way as to move you to compassion for people who are going there.
